"It’s A Very Tough Situation, To Be Honest" - Former Interim Chairman Of USA Cricket Atul Rai On Co-Hosting T20 World Cup 2024

USA Cricket will be the co-host of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 with Cricket West Indies (CWI). The marquee tournament will be held in the United States and the Caribbean islands. However, the report suggests that the USA is in a tough situation to host the upcoming edition of the T20 World Cup due to a lack of facilities and proper infrastructure.

In March this year, reports emerged that the International Cricket Council had stripped USA Cricket of its position and that the nation would not remain the co-host of the mega event. However, Cricbuzz reported that the United States will remain the co-host of the tournament after confirming with a member of the ICC Chief Executive’s Committee (CEC).

We Don’t Have Any Existing Facilities – Atul Rai

In an interview with News18 CricketNext, former USA Cricket president Atul Rai said that the country isn’t ready to host any big events and hoped that the ICC could invest more money to develop infrastructure.

“Not really. I don’t think so. Not where we stand right now. But then again ICC has to make the final call. But without proper infrastructure, nothing is going to happen,” Atul Rai said.

“We don’t have any existing facilities so it’s up to the ICC whether they will invest money in some makeshift venue and even host some games. But it’s a very tough situation, to be honest. ICC has recognised that too.”

ICC Is Not Happy With The Situation – Atul Rai

Atul Rai revealed that the ICC isn’t happy with the situation in USA cricket and said that the board should invest more money and make things happen.

“They wanted to do something but USA Cricket hasn’t helped themselves. At the end of the day, when our house is not in order and there is so much that needs to happen before anyone can come in and say okay you are doing great, let’s put more money and make things happen.”

“ICC is not happy with the situation here and I don’t blame them. You can only hold a hand so far, right? At some point, you have to learn to walk on your own. Hand-holding can only take you so far in life”
