SunRisers Hyderabad skipper David Warner was a relieved man at the post-match presentation after his side finally broke their three-match losing streak and gunned down a successful run-chase against Punjab Kings after having bottled the last two.
Having been put in the field by Punjab Kings, SunRisers Hyderabad’s all-round bowling performance never let the KL Rahul-led unit get off the hook.
Khaleel Ahmed (3/18), Abhishek Sharma (2/24), and Rashid Khan (1/17) were the wreckers-in-chief for the Orange Army as they choked the Punjab Kings batting unit by taking the pace off the ball.
David Warner was full of praise for young Abhishek Sharma, who bowled brilliantly during the middle-overs and claimed a couple of crucial wickets.
Chasing down targets on a sluggish Chennai track has proved to be difficult for SunRisers Hyderabad but this time, Jonny Bairstow, courtesy of an unbeaten 56-ball 63, ensured that he stayed till the end, anchoring the run-chase brilliantly alongside Kane Williamson.
David Warner’s team has finally got off to the mark in IPL 2021 but the southpaw is not looking much into it. Warner reckoned that he wants his team to focus on the upcoming games now and approach every match by taking the pitch out of the equation.
“Very pleasing, the bowlers did a fantastic job to reduce them. The game plan of having them there is to anchor the game. He rotates the strike so well. his impact points against spin are there to see. Abhishek is a young guy coming through, we asked him to bowl a lot more this season, and he did it. Till we went on, he didn’t know he was bowling the first over. I didn’t want to think too much about it. It’s all about starting fresh here again, take the wicket out of it,” said David Warner at the post-match presentation.
