"It's Been A Fantastic Year..." - Sunil Gavaskar Blossoms Praise On India Men's And Women's Team

The year 2023 was a boom for both Indian men’s and women’s cricket teams as they brought a lot of laurels to the country. Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar showered praise on both the men’s and women’s cricket team. As per Sunil Gavaskar, the women’s team performed really well throughout the year and remembered the Test wins at home against England and Australia.

At one end, the men’s team won the 2023 Asia Cup and reached the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup and the World Test Championship.

The Indian women’s cricket team won a gold medal at the Asian Games. Speaking further Sunil Gavaskar also lauded the Indian men’s team’s ODI World Cup performance and stated that the ten straight wins in the tournament were commendable leaving the final against Australia.

Sunil Gavaskar said on Star Sports, “I think it has been a fantastic year for both the men’s and women’s team. I think the way the women’s team has performed because when you look at the two Test wins, one against England and one against Australia, both teams against the Indian women’s team have had some tough times earlier on but to have broken that barrier, beating them in a Test match will mean that going on 2024 onwards, I think we can expect the Indian women’s team to beat them more consistently and regularly.”

“What we saw in the World Cup, the World Cup you know ten straight wins and then that just one bad day sadly happened to be the finals of the World Cup. Really some exciting times in 2023,” Sunil Gavaskar added.

The Indian women’s cricket team have been performing really well in the last few times and have won many matches with their tremendous performances. The team led by Harmanpreet Kaur apart from winning the gold medal in the Asian Games won the women’s Asia Cup.

However, the Indian women’s team have also not been able to turn it around in the ICC knockouts and have ended up on the losing end many times.

Getting to the performances of the Indian men’s cricket team they won the 2023 Asia Cup and had a ruthless campaign in the ODI World Cup. Team India outplayed every side in the tournament and emerged as the top side ahead of the final.

However, it was just a bad day for the Rohit Sharma-led side and they were not able to end their 10-year-old exile from an ICC title.

With the year 2024 approaching, Indian cricket is expected to maintain the same performance criteria and emerge as the top side of the year. The Indian men’s team will play in the 2024 T20 World Cup and will want to end the ICC title drought.

On the other hand, the Indian women’s team will also take part in the T20 World Cup which is set to be held in Bangladesh. India qualified for the finals of the tournament in the year 2018 but were defeated by Australia. On the other hand, the Indian women’s team also played in the semi-final of the 2023 edition of the tournament but once again had to face a loss from Australia.

Both teams will want to break the ICC title barrier next year.
