India National Cricket Team opening batsman Shubman Gill has said that 2023 has been a great year for him, but failing to lift the World Cup trophy at home dampened his mood. Notably, India dominated in the World Cup but lost to Australia in the final.

Shubman Gill was exceptional with the bat in 2023 across all formats of the game. However, he wasn’t able to create the impact that many expected in the World Cup 2023. Gill finished the competition with 354 runs in 9 innings at an average of 44.25 and a strike rate of 106.94, including 4 half-centuries. Notably, he missed the first few matches for the team due to dengue.

Shubman Gill, who has scored 1584 ODI runs in 2023, said that he is looking forward to winning next year’s T20 World Cup.

“I think it’s been a great year for me but having to miss out on the World Cup obviously dampened the mood a bit, but fortunately, we have another World Cup coming up next year so we are all looking forward to it,” Shubman told CNBC-TV 18.

Shubman Gill further expressed his excitement over playing the Test series in South Africa and Australia as well as the T20 World Cup next year.

“In the next one year, there is the World Cup coming, a very important Test series coming up in Australia, and I think this year is not over yet, we have the Test series, coming up in South Africa as well. I think the Test series in Australia and the South Africa series are going to be really big ones and those are the matches I am really looking forward to,” he added.

I am going to be captaining Gujarat Titans, that is a very exciting challenge – Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill has been appointed as the new captain of Gujarat Titans (GT) after the sensational trade of Hardik Pandya to Mumbai Indians (MI). Talking about leading the team in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Shubman Gill said that he is excited about the challenge.

“I am going to be captaining Gujarat Titans, that is a very exciting challenge and that’s gonna be a lot of learning, from that experience hopefully, I can take those learnings and improve myself based on those experiences and learnings, and only that is going to help me in the next year,” he said.

Shubman Gill also talked about his recovery from dengue and said that he is still working very hard in the gym.

“I am still gaining, you know. I have been working in the gym for about two-three hours every day for the past 8-9 days. There is still a good eight days before we start the T20 series in South Africa, so hopefully by the time we start, I will be back to my best,” Shubman said.

Shubman Gill will be next seen in action during the South Africa tour. The India tour of South Africa 2023-24 consists of a three-match T20I series, a three-match ODI series, and a two-match Test series.
