Harry Brook’s reckless shot on Day 4 of the ongoing third Test between India and England at Lord’s has received major backlash from the former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara. Harry Brook threw away his wicket at a crucial moment at Lord’s, leaving fans and experts stunned on Day 4.
Harry Brook walked in with an aggressive mindset and immediately went after Indian pacer Akash Deep, smashing him for two boundaries and a six in the same over. But just when it looked like Brook was settling in for a big knock, his overconfidence turned into a disaster.
Harry Brook slammed by Kumar Sangakkara for an 'Arrogant' shot at Lord’s
Harry Brook misjudged the line completely while trying to sweep a full, fast ball that was aimed right at the stumps. The ball sneaked past the English batter’s legs and crashed into the middle stump, leaving the crowd in shock, and Akash Deep roared in celebration at Lord’s.

The poor shot selection given the situation has irked Kumar Sangakkara. While England needed calm and control, Harry Brook’s decision to go for a risky and unnecessary sweep left the Sri Lankan legend frustrated. He slammed Brook’s lack of patience and poor judgment, saying it was a clear example of arrogance over application.
This is not smart batting: Kumar Sangakkara
Kumar Sangakkara said on-air, “I wonder if they've changed fine leg fine, and he wanted to go square. That is not a scoop. The scoop he plays with ease, and this is a sweep, normally played off a spinner, and that was way too much room. 15 minutes to go for lunch; the counterattack started. This is not smart batting.”
The legendary Sri Lankan batter also criticized England's ultra-aggressive approach on Day 4 morning at Lord’s. The commentator said that the way they batted wasn’t smart or controlled, and neither was ‘Bazball.’ Sangakkara signed off by saying, “It's just arrogance. Not even Bazball.”

India denied Joe Root’s wicket in a dramatic twist
Meanwhile, right after the lunch break, India nearly had the big wicket of Joe Root, but it all ended in frustration and disappointment. Akash Deep bowled a teasing delivery outside off stump that shaped away just enough to catch Root’s outside edge.
The ball flew straight into the Indian wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel’s gloves, but shockingly, it popped out just as quickly. While India was stunned at the missed opportunity, umpire Paul Reiffel raised his hand and called it a front-foot no-ball.
Even if the catch had been clean, it wouldn’t have counted. It was a double blow for India as they missed the chance, and the delivery was also illegal.
Joe Root survives a close LBW call off Mohammed Siraj
Later, Mohammed Siraj nearly trapped Root in front of the stumps. The ball nipped in sharply from a good length and struck Root on the front pad before deflecting onto the bat. Siraj went up in a loud appeal and had a long discussion with the Indian captain, Shubman Gill, about going for a review.
However, they went against taking the review, and it turned out to be the right call. The replays showed that the ball hit Root outside the line of the off stump, which meant he was safe. Root survived the close call and picked up a single, as England leads by 119 runs at Lord’s.
