Former India cricketer Rohan Gavaskar has talked about the India National Cricket Team’s top-3 – Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli – facing criticism for their slow batting approach and poor strike rate in T20 cricket.

Rohit, Rahul and Kohli are three modern-day greats and they have dominated across all three formats of the game. However, the trio has recently faced criticism for their slow batting approach and for not playing fearless cricket in the shorter format of the game.

Gavaskar while talking about Rohit, Rahul and Kohli said that they are the modern-day greats and have the ability to bat at a faster rate but they are from a different generation and their mindset is different.

“I think they need to and having said that, I think they have the ability to do it. When you talk about Virat and Rohit, you are talking about the greats of this generation, absolutely chock-full of talent and ability, it’s just the mindset. It’s just a generational thing,” said Gavaskar to Sports 18.

Gavaskar further mentioned that the score of 220 was considered a match-winning total in the mid-80s and now 200 scores are being chased in 20 overs.

“This has happened throughout cricket. If you look at ODIs in the mid-80s, 220 could be a match-winning score. Now you see 200 gets chased down in T20 cricket. You look at this T20 squad of ours, most of the batters would have started playing T20 cricket in the last five or six years,” he added.

Meanwhile, India stars Rohit, Rahul and Kohli are not playing in the ongoing five-match T20I series against South Africa at home.

Rohit and Kohli have been rested for the series and they will directly travel to England for an all-format tour while Rahul has been ruled out of the series with a groin injury.
