Australian captain Pat Cummins might have been out of action, but the star speedster is still ruling the headlines. Pat Cummins returned to the headlines with his shocking statement on India after their thrilling win over Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 group match in Dubai.

Cummins has been ruled out of the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and even missed Australia’s recent tour of Sri Lanka due to an injury after captaining his team to the Border-Gavaskar Trophy earlier this year after more than a decade. Australia had won the Test series by a 3-1 margin against India.

Pat Cummins raises eyebrows with bold take on India-Australia rivalry

Well, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 was full of drama and enthralling moments on the field, which yet again sparked comparisons between the India-Australia rivalry and Australia-England. The rivalry between India and Australia has been growing over the years, and many very often compare it with the Ashes rivalry.

Even many rated the India-Australia rivalry higher than the Ashes. However, Pat Cummins downgraded India’s competitiveness and fairness in a bold statement after the Men in Blue overpowered their arch-rivals Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 match in Dubai. Notably, many fans and former cricketers rank the India-Pakistan rivalry higher than the Ashes.

Reflecting on Australia's intense summer, Cummins shared how the battle against India felt bigger than usual. With India having dominated previous Test series in Australia, the skipper said that the recent BGT truly felt like a showdown between the top two Test sides in the world.

The Australian ace pacer admitted that the competition was fierce, and every moment carried weight, making it an unforgettable contest, but he stressed that nothing compares to the pressure of the Ashes. Cummins has insisted that losing to England at home is a nightmare for any Australian cricketer, so the rivalry with England is still bigger than the Australia-India rivalry.

Pat Cummins said on SEN Radio, “It was a wonderful summer that I won't forget for a while. In terms of competitiveness, India have won the last couple of series out here whereas with England, we have been pretty dominant at home.

This summer did feel like it was the No. 1 and No. 2 ranked Test sides battling each other out. From that point of view, it did feel bigger than normal. However, if you lose an Ashes at home, it feels like the world is coming to an end. In that sense, it's still bigger.”
