Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has stormed back to his dangerous mode and played a knock that completely turned Hyderabad Kingsmen’s season around in the ongoing Pakistan Super League 2026 (PSL 2026).
Hyderabad Kingsmen were under pressure before the virtual eliminator against Rawalpindiz, having already suffered four defeats in a row at the start of the ongoing Pakistan Super League season, so they needed a big win to stay alive in the tournament.
But Maxwell stepped up at the right time and delivered an incredible performance that not only won them the match against Rawalpindi but also secured their place in the PSL 2026 playoffs.
Glenn Maxwell takes Hyderabad Kingsmen to PSL 2026 Playoffs with blistering all-round show
Batting first, Hyderabad Kingsmen suffered a batting collapse in the middle overs, and that’s when Maxwell took charge. The star all-rounder smashed the Rawalpindi bowler all around the park to score 70 runs from 37 balls, featuring eight boundaries and three sixes.
Interestingly, Maxwell was sent to bat at number 7; still, he managed to play a key role in Hyderabad Kingsmen pulling off a massive 106-run win over Rawalpindiz in their PSL 2026 game. Chasing 245, Rawalpindiz was never in the game. However, Usman Khawaja tried his best and scored 66 not out, but he didn’t get support from the other end.
The Rawalpindi team kept losing wickets and were eventually bowled out for just 136 runs. Maxwell’s impact was not just with the bat. He helped in one run-out and took a brilliant catch of Saad Masood, as well as bowled out Mohammad Amir in the PSL 2026 clash.
This win helped Hyderabad Kingsmen move into the top four, knocking Lahore Qalandars out of the tournament. Now, Hyderabad will face Multan Sultans in the eliminator. On the other side, Islamabad United will play against Peshawar Zalmi for a place in the PSL 2026 final.
Glenn Maxwell enjoys PSL ride, credits team culture for playoff qualification
After Hyderabad Kingsmen’s qualification, the Australian all-rounder, who had withdrawn from the IPL 2026 auction to play in the PSL 2026, said that he is really enjoying his time in the Pakistan Super League and feels lucky to be part of such a strong team.
Glenn Maxwell said at the press conference, "PSL experience has been great so far. I’ve been extremely lucky to be part of a really good side. I've been extremely lucky to come over to a really good side.”
Reflecting on the poor start, Glenn Maxwell stressed that the debutant team was playing good cricket from the start, but results were not going their way. He also gave credit to head coach Jason Gillespie and captain Marnus Labuschagne for building a solid team environment.

The Aussie star added, “They probably didn't get the results they deserved in the first four games, but the groundwork that [coach] Jason Gillespie and [captain] Marnus Labuschagne had set for the group was destined to come off at some stage.”
Tough times don’t define you: Glenn Maxwell targets IPL teams
Speaking about him finding form after a long run of poor form, he said that failure is normal in cricket, but what really matters is how strongly you come back after tough times.
Glenn Maxwell signed off by saying, “I've gone through lots of rough spots in my whole career. You're not always going to have success; it's not always going to be smooth sailing. You've got to take so many risks, so you're going to fail at different times; it's how you bounce back from that failure, which determines what sort of character you have.”
