Former Indian skipper Virender Sehwag lashed out at the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) team management for their poor decision-making in their IPL 2026 match against Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday, April 25.
After a match of many twists and turns, Lucknow Super Giants eventually lost the match in the Super Over after the game was tied, even after both teams played 20 overs each.
Sehwag was speaking to Cricbuzz in the aftermath of the game and took shots at the big names present in the team's think-tank.
"Do their brains not work?" - Sehwag on LSG management
Notably, Lucknow Super Giants' backroom contains a lot of big and established names. Apart from head coach Justin Langer, who has also coached Australia, the management contains former SRH head coach Tom Moody as Director of Cricket.
Former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson, who is still an active player in Tests and ODIs, had also joined the franchise as 'Strategic Advisor' prior to the season.
Sehwag lashed out at all of them in his scathing criticism and questioned their methods of working as well.
"LSG have again been unable to chase, so chasing is their problem. You have a Director of Cricket, you have a Head Coach, you also have an Advisor in Kane Williamson, Justin Langer and Tom Moody, do their brains not work? Can they not see how their team is playing?"
"The team is struggling with the bat, and yet after the winning the toss you are inviting the other team to bat first. If they had gotten a chance to bat without pressure even if they scored just 140 or 150, KKR would have been under pressure as they are not playing well either," he said.
"Who is taking these decisions?" - Sehwag
Sehwag went on to say that LSG's decisions have been very unwise and that he was unable to understand how these calls were being taken.
"I am not able to understand this, you are having trouble chasing, and yet you are choosing to chase the total everytime. This is very unwise. Who is taking these decisions?" he continued.
It is worth noting that Lucknow Super Giants have batted second in 6 matches in IPL 2026 and lost 4 of them, including the latest one in a Super Over.
LSG's poor form and next matches
The loss to KKR on Sunday was LSG's fifth in a row in IPL 2026. They are now struggling at last place in the points table. In all, they have won just 2 out of their 8 matches. Another loss will almost surely push them out of the tournament.
LSG's struggles arise mainly from being unable to build on success at home. They have lost all 4 of their matches at the Bharat Ratna Sri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow this year. Continuing on from last year, their winless streak at home is now up to 8.
The Rishabh-Pant-led franchise will play the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on May 4 for their next match. They have reason to celebrate as Australia wicket-keeper Josh Inglis is likely to be available for that fixture.
