However, things suddenly turned awkward when Shehzad strongly backed young wicketkeeper-batter Haseebullah Khan and raised questions over the selectors’ decision to leave him out of the upcoming ODI series against the Bangladesh National Cricket Team.

Mohammad Amir said on the show, "The system itself is pushing these players away. Cases like Ben Stokes and Alex Hales came out in the past, but they were not completely discarded. Every player can make mistakes, and sometimes there can be discipline issues. That does not mean a player should be thrown out of the system forever. I am not saying that the player will always be perfect.”

He continued, “There can be problems, and people may raise questions. But the real responsibility lies with the system. If a player is your product, like your own child, then it is your duty to guide him, support him, and help him improve instead of simply pushing him aside.”

Shockingly, Shehzad made a blistering remark about players who had spent time in jail in the past. Those also got the chance on the Pakistani side, so why is the talented 22-year-old batter from Balochistan not getting the chance? The statement instantly created an uncomfortable moment on the show because Amir was sitting right beside him.

He clearly reminded me of Amir’s involvement in the infamous 2010 Pakistan spot-fixing scandal that led to his imprisonment in the UK years ago. Shehzad said during the discussion, "Has anyone here gone to jail? Some players in our system have even faced jail in the past. That is a reality. But still, we are not here to defend anyone blindly or attack someone personally.”

Shehzad further added, “We do not have any personal issue with Haseebullah Khan. We are not related to him in any way. The point is simple — the youngster deserves a fair opportunity to prove himself. Even Rohail Nazir has been performing well and deserves recognition for his efforts. But somehow these players are being ignored, while others are getting selected.”

Questions raised over Haseebullah Khan’s omission

He questioned Muhammad Ghazi Ghouri’s selection despite the debate around it. The debate began after Haseebullah was dropped from Pakistan’s ODI squad for the Bangladesh tour starting on March 11. The selectors picked youngster Ghouri over Haseebullah Khan.

The former cricketers pointed out the huge difference in domestic numbers. Haseebullah has been one of the most consistent performers in List A cricket with an average close to 45 and 9 centuries and 11 fifties to his name, while his replacement has far lower numbers. Because of this, they felt the talented wicketkeeper had been unfairly ignored despite strong performances.
