James Anderson was not in his best of forms during the 2023 summer which witnessed the Ashes in England in June and July. He could only manage five wickets in four Test matches at a shambolic average of 85.40 in the series. Anderson will be back in action during England’s tour of India where they will play five Tests with the first one to commence on January 25 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

James Anderson has been a legend in Test cricket and holds the record for Most Wickets in Test cricket as a pace bowler with a tally of 690 wickets. He is just 10 wickets away from being the third bowler to complete 700 wickets in Test cricket after the likes of Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralitharan. Anderson has a great chance to complete his 700 wickets in the series against India as it is a five-match series providing a lot of opportunity for the veteran to bowl.

James Anderson was a part of the England team that won the Test series in India back in 2012 and he took 12 wickets in four games for England. He also took eight wickets in three matches at an average of 15.88 in 2021 when England last toured India for a Test series. England started auspiciously in 2021 by winning the first Test but then lost three back-to-back Tests.

Former England pacer and Anderson’s teammate Steven Finn has praised James Anderson saying that he is a superhuman. He said, “Jimmy (James Anderson) is superhuman. People have been anticipating he will retire for about seven years now and he keeps surprising people and performing. He didn’t have a fantastic summer last year, but I know from knowing him as a character that he wouldn’t be doing this unless he felt he could make a difference.”

James Anderson Has A Good Record Against India In Tests

James Anderson is one of the nightmares for Indian batters. He has taken 139 wickets in 35 Test matches which is his highest against any opposition in red-ball cricket. Anderson has recorded six five-wicket hauls against India and has always troubled the great Indian batter, Virat Kohli. However, the better part of his records have come in England but the series is going to be hosted by India.

In India, James Anderson has taken 34 wickets in 13 Test matches with no five-wicket hauls to his name. The Indian pitches don’t favour the pace bowlers but still, Anderson has a decent record in the subcontinent. The veteran pacer just needs 10 more wickets to join the elite list of Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralitharan and will become the first-ever pace bowler to take 700 wickets in Test cricket.

India will play five Test matches against England in this series starting from January 25 in Hyderabad. The other four venues for the series are Vishakhapatnam, Rajkot, Ranchi, and Dharamsala. Currently, India is second on the WTC points table whereas England is eighth. England needs to revive quickly if they want to qualify for the ICC World Test Championship Finals which will be played in 2025.
