Champion England seamer James Anderson has added yet another feather to his illustrious cap as he leapfrogged veteran Indian leg-spinner, Anil Kumble, to become the third-highest wicket-taker in Test history.
Anderson, who had dismissed Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli on successive deliveries on the second afternoon, had to wait for his 620th wicket thanks to a combination of bad weather and atrocious slip catching by England.
Anderson saw KL Rahul get dropped off his bowling on two separate instances during India’s first innings.
He could have easily got his 620th Test scalp on the second afternoon after he induced an outside edge off Rahul’s bat but for Dom Sibley, who dropped a sitter in the cordon.

Anderson once again created an opportunity on the third afternoon when he enticed KL Rahul to play away from his body and this time it was skipper Joe Root, who shelled the opportunity at first slip.
However, the ever-so relentless James Anderson eventually got his man as Rahul nicked off for 84 and Jos Buttler gobbled the catch easily.
Anderson then went on to claim his 621st scalp as Shardul Thakur edged one that kept straight to Root in the cordon.
The champion pacer is on the verge of yet another five-wicket-haul in Test cricket and only Shane Warne (708) and Muttiah Muralitharan (800) are ahead of him as far as leading wicket-takers in Test cricket are concerned.
