Former England Test pacer James Anderson might make a shocking return to the white-ball cricket following his retirement from international cricket. The fast bowler stated that he was good enough to play and could play in the Hundred League.
James Anderson, who is known as the red-ball legend, recently called time on his international career. He retired from the Test cricket after the first Test against West Indies. The pacer had a prolonged career and despite being over 40, he looked extremely fit and was keen to play more.
James Anderson ended his career as the greatest Test fast bowler. The right-arm pacer had an emotional farewell at the Lord's Cricket Ground. But that wasn't the last that we have seen of him as the pacer has expressed his desire to play in the white-ball format, especially in the T20 leagues.
James Anderson said that he hasn't made any decision related to his career, hinting that he could play domestic cricket for a while. The fast bowler pointed out that he hasn't played any franchise cricket in his career with the way the ball is swinging in the ongoing Hundred, he believes he has a job to do here.
James Anderson stated that he will be analysing his future after the summer, saying that he is open to cricket next year but he admitted the challenges he will be facing. But he made a strong statement that he is in good shape to play cricket. Speaking to PA news, he explained:
"I might be in a bit of denial because I'm well aware I won't play for England again but I've still not made a decision on my actual cricket career. There's a bit of intrigue with the shorter formats because I've not played any franchise stuff before. Watching The Hundred this year, and seeing the ball swing around, makes me feel like I could do a job there.
"Once this summer is done I can sit down and have a real think if I want to play cricket in some shape or form again next year. I'm quite open at the minute to thoughts of any sort of cricket, I'm still fit enough to play and I'm not shutting myself off to anything. It's hard to know if there'll be any interest from people wanting me to play in that sort of thing so we'll wait and see. I know it's a while since I played it and my age will get brought up again but I really feel I'll be good enough to play that form of cricket."
I still need to see if this is what I'm passionate about - James Anderson
James Anderson, who is currently the mentor of the England Test team, talked about his love for Test cricket. He said that he would love to be the mentor of the team for Ashes but it will be the decision of the head coach and skipper. He explained:
"My love for Test cricket is always going to be there and the Ashes is the biggest thing you can be involved in as an England player. If you're not playing then the next best thing is trying to help the team from the sidelines.
"It's still a long way away and I still need to see if this is what I'm passionate about. Stokesy and England need to decide if I'm the right man for the job too. So far, so good, but you never know," he concluded.
