Australia’s Jamie Siddons Thursday has been appointed Bangladesh national team’s new batting coach on Thursday, BCB confirmed the news.

Siddons will replace South Africa’s Ashwell Prince as Bangladesh batting coach, the latter tendered his resignation on Wednesday (February 9).

Prince was appointed in the role last year when Bangladesh toured Zimbabwe in July but was later given an extension till the T20 World Cup in Australia this year. The former South African player cited family reasons for leaving his post with the Bangladesh team.

Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan said the players and board directors had good feedback of Siddons, who played only one ODI match for Australia in his career.

“Jamie Siddons will be the national team’s batting coach. We have heard from senior cricketers and board directors that he is a good coach, which is why we brought him here,” Nazmul stated, as reported by ESPNcricinfo.

“Maybe after Siddons’ arrival, Prince thought we were thinking differently. But he could have stayed so that we could get him to work in a different capacity,” he added.

We are looking for a pace-bowling coach: Nazmul Hasan

Last month, former West Indies player Ottis Gibson decided to not renew his contract with the Bangladesh team as their bowling coach. Gibson joined PSL franchise Multan Sultans for the seventh edition of Pakistan’s T20 franchise league.

Hasan said the search for a bowling coach is still on after BCB had said they were looking to bring a foreign coach to replace Gibson.

“We are looking for a pace-bowling coach who has experience working with international teams. Till then, Champaka (Ramanayake) can work with them,” Hassan said.

Bangladesh will host Afghanistan for three ODI matches and a couple of T20 Internationals. The white-ball series starts on February 23 in Chattogram.
