Jammu & Kashmir's first international cricketer Parvez Rasool announces retirement

Parvez Rasool has retired from all forms of cricket. The Jammu and Kashmir stalwart informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) about his decision on Saturday (October 19).
He will be always remember for being a trendsetter in Jammu and Kashmir cricket. In 2014, he scripted history by becoming the first-ever player from his state to represent India in international cricket.

Parvez Rasool made his international debut during the Mirpur ODI against Bangladesh in 2014. Three years later in 2017, he also represented India in a T20I against England. Before becoming an international cricket, the spin-bowling allrounder also became the first-ever Jammu and Kashmir cricketer to play in the Indian Premier League. He made his IPL debut in 2013 for the now-defunct Pune Warriors India before representing Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bengaluru as well.
"When we started playing, not many took Jammu and Kashmir cricket seriously. But we went on to beat some of the big teams and also fare well in the Ranji Trophy and other BCCI affiliated tournaments. I led the team for a fairly long period and it gives me immense satisfaction to have contributed a bit to the team’s success story," Rasool told Sportstar.
Parvez Rasool's illustrious career:
While Parvez Rasool could only play two limited-overs matches for India, he enjoyed an illustrious career in domestic circuit. He won the prestigious Lala Amarnath Trophy for the best allrounder in the Ranji Trophy on two occasions—in 2013/14 and 2017/18.
He won the trophy for the first time after ending the season with an impressive 594 runs and 33 wickets. Overall, Rasool played 95 first-class matches and picked up 352 wickets with the help of 23 five-wicket hauls. With the bat, he scored over 5500 runs including 16 centuries and 22 fifties. In limited-overs cricket, he picked up close to 300 wickets and scored over 4000 runs.

"Every time I represented my team, my aim was to ensure that we came out winners. Of course, at times, results did not go our way, but I did everything possible to perform to the best of my abilities for J&K," Rasool said.
"Now that I have some free time, I was looking at the numbers, and they aren’t that bad at all. I clinched quite a few players of the match in the IPL and those performances have also been special..." he added.
With his playing career over, Rasool is now eager to make an impact as a coach. He recently cleared the Level-II coaching certificate from the BCCI Centre of Excellence and is keen on becoming a full-time coach.
