Former Australian cricketer Jason Gillespie has openly blamed Pakistan for losing interest in coaching following his bitter stint as head coach of the Test team. Jason Gillespie had taken over as Pakistan’s Test coach in April last year but left the role by December.

Gillespie said that his time with the Pakistan national cricket team has made him lose interest in coaching full-time. He said the experience left him feeling tired and disappointed.

Gillespie claimed that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) made decisions without telling him, which made him feel left out.

The former Australian cricketer has revealed that the lack of clear communication made it hard for him to continue his role with the Test side. Even though Gillespie helped Pakistan win an ODI series against Australia, things didn’t go well behind the scenes.

Jason Gillespie was quoted as saying by Wisden, “Right now, I’m not sure I’m interested in coaching full time. [Even if Australia comes calling,] no, I’m not interested.”

After Gillespie stepped down, Aqib Javed replaced him as interim head coach. Now, the Aussie legend revealed that he wasn’t happy with the way he was treated and even slammed Javed, who is also a national selector, for making things harder during his time with the team.

Presently, he is not interested in coaching full-time—not even for Australia. The well-known Australian coach hopes his love for coaching will return one day, but for now, he wants a break.

The former coach added, “The Pakistan experience has soured my love for coaching, I’ll be honest. I’ll get it back; I’m sure I will, but that was a blow. It disappointed me how that all ended. It’s had me question whether I want to coach full-time again.”

I was utterly blindsided by PCB: Jason Gillespie

Earlier, Gillespie said that he joined the Pakistan cricket team, knowing it would be tough, but the way things ended made him question whether he wants to coach again.

He was quoted as saying by ABC Sport, “There were certainly challenges. I went into the job eyes wide open; I want to make that clear. I knew that, you know, Pakistan had cycled through several coaches in a pretty short space of time.”

Gillespie signed off by saying, “The straw that broke the camel’s back, I suppose, was, as a head coach, you like to have clear communication with your employer. I was completely and utterly blindsided by a decision not to have a high-performance coach.”

Notably, Pakistan’s struggles continue across the format even after his departure. The Men in Green recently suffered embarrassing defeats in the white-ball series against the Black Caps.

They were hammered by a 1-4 margin in the T20I series, while they were whitewashed in the ODI series by the Kiwis. Before this tour, Pakistan failed to win a single game in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
