Jason Gillespie suggested a few names who are talented and young enough to serve the Australian cricket team for a long time in the future. Keeping the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy in mind, the legendary fast bowler highlighted a few names who, according to Jason Gillespie, will be in contention to face the Indian cricket team in the high-profile Test series.

The Bangladesh National Cricket Team gave the Australia National Cricket Team a reality check. Ahead of a busy one-year schedule, where the Aussies will have to play more than twenty Test matches, they are facing a series question; the question surrounds their team selection.

The average age of the Australian cricket team is on the higher side

For the last few years, it is almost the same group of players who are representing the team in the Whites. Prime bowlers like Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Steve Smith, and multiple other key players are well over thirty. Some of their back-up options, like Beau Webster and Scott Boland, are also in their thirties.

On paper, the pack of players who are currently representing the Australian cricket team is mostly nowhere near being called emerging players. As the days progress, age will leave its impression on the performance of players. The prestigious Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) is among the Test series that are on Australia's calendar.

The Aussies won the previous edition of the BGT, with pure domination over the Indian cricket team. After the defeat against Bangladesh in Darwin, the team that won the Test mace during the World Test Championship in 2023.

Australia will have to reestablish their dominance after the heavy defeat vs Bangladesh

They will have to reassert their domination after the 9-wicket defeat setback. Because of the packed schedule, Cricket Australia needs to protect their talents before they completely burn out their gas.

To protect the players and the monitoring the players' workload, the cricket governing body will have to ensure an extended set of players so that the team management can rotate the team as per requirements. Former Australia pacer Jason Gillespie suggested a few changes the team could consider for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Jason Gillespie suggests 5 names ahead of next BGT vs India

Jason Gillespie mentioned Matt Renshaw, Peter Handscomb, Corey Rocchiccioli, Lloyd Pope and Tanveer Sangha are among the young cricketers he would love to see performing for the national team against India.

"Look, Matt Renshaw is a nice player. He has patience and technique, as Usman Khawaja did. He’s learnt a lot. Peter Handscomb, he’s a bit older, but he’s a very good spin player. So several options are floating around Australian cricket. Corey Rocchiccioli, an off-spinner from Western Australia, is a very fine bowler. Lloyd Pope and Tanveer Sangha are good leg-spin options," Jason Gillespie told the Indian Express in a recent interview.

The former cricketer, notably, did not mention in his reply that the team does not need any reinforcement. Instead, he suggested a few names who could be the long runners for the side in the future.
