Jasprit Bumrah was breathing fire on Day 2 of the second Test and bowled a riveting spell to put India on top. The second Test between India and England is being played at Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Vishakhapatnam. Jasprit Bumrah picked up a six-fer during the England innings to leave them in shambles. Bumrah’s exploits saw England getting bowled out for just 253 runs after India scored 396 runs in their innings after a commendable performance from Yashasvi Jaiswal.

The Indian speedster bowled a jaw-dropping yorker to dismiss the hero of the last match for England Ollie Pope, which became the highlight of Day 2 of the Test match. Bumrah bowled a fired-up toe-crusher against the England vice-captain which left the batter stumbling in his crease and shattered his stumps. Former India opener Aakash Chopra lauded the Indian pacer and called him ‘Superman’.

“What we are watching in front of our eyes is peak performance from one of the greatest ever fast bowlers in the history of the game. Bumrah was fantastic. He picked 6 wickets on a flat wicket, made Joe Root his bunny, cleaned up the tail and bowled the ball of 2024 to Ollie Pope. Bumrah also has the rare skill to reverse in both directions,” Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel ahead of the third day’s play.

Jasprit Bumrah Deceived Ben Stokes With An Off Cutter

Aakash Chopra also lauded Bumrah at the end of Day 2 as well and pointed out his brilliance against England skipper Ben Stokes in the final session on Saturday. Jasprit Bumrah deceived Ben Stokes with an off-cutter which thrashed the off-stump of the England captain. Ben Stokes dropped his bat and raised his arms in disbelief after being dismissed to Jasprit Bumrah.

“Jasprit Bumrah did an amazing job. Ben Stokes’ expression was as though Jasprit Bumrah had cheated when he got out. It was as though he didn’t see the ball after it pitched and it went straight and hit his stumps – ‘I don’t want to keep this bat, keep it with you’. That was something incredible,” Chopra had said.

England started at a dream run-a-ball rate with their openers putting up a 59-run stand, but their batting crumbled later in the day. India is currently leading after the first innings and even though they lost their openers early to James Anderson in the second innings, the middle order has provided some stability to the innings. If India takes a 300-350 run lead in the second innings, it will be very difficult for England to chase that kind of a total on a fourth or fifth-day Vizag pitch that will offer a good amount of help to the spinners.

England won the first Test in Hyderabad, defeating India by 28 runs and now the hosts are coming back to the track in Vizag. India has not lost a Test series at home since 2012 and it was England who defeated them in 2012 under the leadership of Sir Alastair Cook. The hosts have won 16 consecutive home Test series since the defeat in 2012 and are looking to win the 17th one by defeating England in the ongoing five-match Test series.
