Former cricketer David Lloyd made a stunning claim about Jasprit Bumrah following the third Test between England and India in the ongoing five-match series. Lloyd stated that India lost two Tests with Bumrah in the playing XI, but the visitors' best hope would be to field him for the upcoming fourth Test match.

Jasprit Bumrah took his second five-wicket haul of the series during the third Test at Lord's. However, India lost the match by 22 runs in the final moments of Day 5. The Shubman Gill-led team are now 1-2 behind in the ongoing series.

Bumrah had also featured in the opening Test at Leeds, which India lost by five wickets. Notably, he missed the second Test at Edgbaston, where India secured a 336-run win and levelled the series.

Jasprit Bumrah Is Like the Best Bowler in the World - David Lloyd

Speaking on the TalkSport Cricket Podcast, David Lloyd described Jasprit Bumrah as awkward and tough to face due to his unique action. Lloyd said that the pacer has a decision to make regarding his availability for the fourth Test at Old Trafford in Manchester, which begins next week.

"That's extraordinary. There was something that said when he plays they lose more than when he doesn't play, and he is like the best bowler in the world. And he is awkward and nasty with his action, but a thoroughly decent fella," Lloyd said (via Hindustan Times).

Gautam Gambhir Said He Will Play Three - David Lloyd on Jasprit Bumrah

David Lloyd believes Jasprit Bumrah is likely to feature in the fourth Test, with his availability for the fifth depending on the series situation. Lloyd added that the pacer might skip the final Test at The Oval if England seal the series 3-1.

"If he plays this next one at Old Trafford and they get a result to make it 2-2, you'd think he'd play at The Oval as well. I'm second-guessing, but I think he'll play this next game and see where they are. If England go 3-1, he won't play. But if it's 2-2, he will play at the Oval," said Lloyd (via the aforementioned source).

"It is what they've said and what the coach Gautam Gambhir said that he will play three out of the five Tests. So, he's got a choice. There are two matches to go. He's played two. If they are true to their words, he should play this next game at Old Trafford. But then, you know, they can manoeuvre that, can't they?" he continued.

Jasprit Bumrah Among Leading Wicket-Takers in Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy

Jasprit Bumrah has been in impressive form during the ongoing Test series, having taken 12 wickets in two matches. The fast bowler began with a five-wicket haul in the first innings at Leeds but went wicketless in the second.

He took another five-wicket haul and picked up two more wickets across both innings in the third Test match.

The 31-year-old’s participation in the fourth Test at Old Trafford remains uncertain. Indian captain Shubman Gill did not confirm whether the pacer would be part of the playing XI, stating that a decision would be announced soon.

India have been cautious with Bumrah’s workload, especially after his back injury on the 2024–25 tour of Australia. He had to miss the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and the early part of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
