The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) wants fast bowler ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah to play all nine remaining matches in the current World Test Championship cycle. The selectors and team management want to revive India’s struggling campaign after suffering a home series whitewash against South Africa.
Shubman Gill's side is currently in sixth place on the World Test Championship standings. After a one-off Test against Afghanistan starting June 6, Chandigarh, India will play two Tests each against Sri Lanka and New Zealand before hosting Australia for a five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy in January next year.
BCCI Wants Jasprit Bumrah to Play Remaining 9 Tests in WTC 2025-27
According to a report by the Times of India, the Board of Control for Cricket in India is planning a detailed workload management strategy for Jasprit Bumrah. The selectors are willing to rest Bumrah during multiple upcoming ODI series and T20Is.
Managing Bumrah’s fitness remains a major challenge, keeping him fresh and fully fit for the demanding five-day matches scheduled later this year.
“The attempt is to keep Bumrah fit enough to play all Tests. He is expected to play the four Tests in Sri Lanka and New Zealand. The challenge will be to keep him fresh for the five Tests at home against Australia. The selectors won't mind resting him for some ODI series,” BCCI sources told TOI.

Shubman Gill Calls for Better Preparation Time Between Formats
The national selection committee has made it clear that fully fit first-choice players must be available for red-ball cricket. Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill has also called for longer gaps between formats so the team can prepare properly for major international series.
“The idea is to get serious about Tests. The Afghanistan Test may be outside the WTC cycle but there's nothing like match practice. The top players will be assessed and a call on them will be taken accordingly,” sources said.
Under head coach Gautam Gambhir, India failed to qualify for the World Test Championship final. After home series losses against South Africa, the team management is now prioritizing the remaining nine Test matches over immediate limited-overs assignments.
Jasprit Bumrah Breaks Wicketless Streak In IPL 2026
While the Indian cricket board is planning his international future, Jasprit Bumrah is currently representing Mumbai Indians (MI) in the ongoing IPL. The premier fast bowler endured the longest wicketless streak of his T20 career, bowling 122 consecutive deliveries without taking a wicket.
After going wicketless in five straight matches, Bumrah broke the streak against Gujarat Titans on April 20. He dismissed Sai Sudharsan with his first delivery and finished with figures of 1/15 in that match.
Bumrah remains the most economical bowler for Mumbai Indians this season. He has maintained an economy rate of 8.14, conceding 179 runs in 22 overs in six matches, while most of his teammates have gone at over 10 runs per over.
