Ajit Agarkar confirmed that Jasprit Bumrah won’t be playing all five Test matches for India on the England tour. Bumrah will most likely play three or four Test matches based on his fitness.
Bumrah’s absence in one or two Test matches will be a huge setback for the Indian team, as Bumrah’s impact in overseas Test matches is way more than any other player.
Ajit Agarkar confirms Jasprit Bumrah’s availability for the England tour
Jasprit Bumrah suffered an injury in the Australia tour and then missed the Champions Trophy 2025 and a few games of the ongoing IPL season.
Bumrah’s workload has been managed wisely by the management because if Bumrah suffered another back injury, then it might be the end of his Test career.
"Pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah won't be available for all five Tests against England from what physiotherapists have told us," Agarkar said, according to PTI.
Agarkar also revealed why Bumrah was not considered for the leadership role and why Gill was given a chance ahead of him.
The Indian chief selector stated, "Bumrah is more important to us as a player. Once you're managing people, there's a lot that takes out of you. We've had a chat with him, he's okay with it. He knows where his body is."
Bumrah’s impact is unmatchable in any format of the game, and apart from Mohammed Siraj, no other bowler has much experience in bowling in English conditions.
Bumrah’s partner, Mohammad Shami, will also miss the entirety of the series due to fitness concerns. The selection committee accepted the fact that Bumrah should be used in important matches to manage his workload.
Jasprit Bumrah’s madness in the last overseas Test series
The right-arm pacer totally destroyed Australia in Australia. Bumrah scalped 32 wickets in five Test matches. In which he didn’t bowl in the last innings of the last Test match.
Bumrah sustained a back injury in the Sydney Test match and went to the hospital midway through the Test match. Without Bumrah, Australia easily chased down the target in the fourth innings.
Jasprit Bumrah is missing Test matches regularly
Jasprit Bumrah is missing at least one or two Test matches in his last three Test series. Bumrah missed one Test match against England in 2023, when England toured India for a five-Test match series.
Bumrah also missed one out of three Test matches against New Zealand. In the last Test series against Australia, Bumrah was ruled out of the last match midway due to a back injury.
This is also the first time that management announced before the series that Bumrah won't be available for the whole Test series.
