Out-of-favour Team India batter Cheteshwar Pujara made a special request to ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah's wife, Sanjana Ganesan, during the first Test of the five-match series against England. Pujara urged Sanjana to convince Jasprit Bumrah to play all five matches in the series despite injury concerns.
Bumrah continued his impressive form with the ball in the opening Test against England at Headingley, Leeds. The 31-year-old pacer picked up a five-wicket haul in the first innings, helping India take a narrow six-run lead. It was Bumrah’s 14th five-for in Test cricket and his 12th in overseas conditions.

I Have a Request for You Tomorrow - Cheteshwar Pujara to Sanjana Ganesan
Speaking on Sony Sports, Cheteshwar Pujara and Sunil Gavaskar urged Sanjana Ganesan to convince Jasprit Bumrah to play all five Tests in the ongoing series. Gavaskar said that there are eight-day gaps between most matches, and Bumrah can manage it.
"I have a request for you tomorrow. You will have to convince Jasprit to play a few more games. Just just try it," Pujara said.
"Tell him, 'Look, there's an eight-day gap'. So the next Test is not a problem. And then after that, he can't miss Lord’s. Then again, there's an eight-day gap," Gavaskar said.
"In Manchester, the ball will do all kinds of things, whether it's April, May, June, July, August, September, October, or November. So, he has to play there. And then at The Oval, it's just five days," he added.

You Are the One Who Can Convince Jasprit Bumrah - Cheteshwar Pujara
Cheteshwar Pujara said that Sanjana Ganesan is the only one who could convince Jasprit Bumrah to play all five Tests in the ongoing series. Sanjana responded with a laugh, saying that she doesn’t have to do anything.
"You are the one who can convince," Pujara said.
"After that, I don't have to do anything," Sanjana said.
"I hope he's watching this. And basically, Jasprit, we need you. Yeah, please play all five," Gavaskar said.
"That is the conversation we will have on another day," said Bumrah after his wife informed him about Sunil Gavaskar and Cheteshwar Pujara's request.

Ahead of the series opener, chief selector Ajit Agarkar and head coach Gautam Gambhir confirmed that Bumrah can play only three out of the five Tests in the series. Bumrah sustained a back injury during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25, which forced him to miss the Champions Trophy.
England Bowled Out for 465 in First Innings After Pope and Brook Heroics
England scored 465 runs in their first innings, with contributions from Ollie Pope (106) and Harry Brook (99). Jasprit Bumrah was India’s standout bowler, finishing with figures of 5/83 despite some misfortune. Three catches were dropped off his bowling, and a no-ball denied him Brook’s wicket.
Yashasvi Jaiswal dropped two chances, while Ravindra Jadeja missed another, each off Bumrah’s bowling. Brook made the most of the reprieve before falling just short of a century.
Prasidh Krishna took 3/128, and Mohammed Siraj added 2/122, as the rest of the Indian bowling attack found it tough to contain the runs. By stumps on Day 3, India were 90/2 in their second innings, with KL Rahul (47) and Shubman Gill (6) at the crease.
