India National Cricket Team pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah won hearts with his ultimate selfless act during the first Test of the two-match series against the West Indies National Cricket Team.

The Test series opener between Shubman Gill-led India and Roston Chase-led West Indies is currently underway at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday, October 2.

Jasprit Bumrah’s big-hearted gesture for Mohammed Siraj wins hearts

Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj form a deadly pace-bowling duo for India, but the unavailability of the former in many matches has led to the extra responsibility falling on the shoulders of the Hyderabad paceman.

In India's previous Test series in England, Jasprit Bumrah made himself available only in three out of five Test matches, and in his absence, Mohammed Siraj was asked to lead the Indian bowling unit against England.

Siraj took that responsibility very well and finished the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 as the leading wicket-taker with 23 wickets in his bag. He particularly unleashed his beast mode when Jasprit Bumrah was absent from the playing XI.

Meanwhile, the best of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj together was seen in the ongoing match against the West Indies in Ahmedabad. Both the pacers were breathing fire after India were invited to bowl first, and their dominant performances saw India bundling out West Indies for 162 in 44.1 overs.

During the innings, Jasprit Bumrah bamboozled Johann Layne with a toe-crushing yorker on the first ball of the 41st over, which saw West Indies being reduced to 9-153 and took his tally to three wickets.

However, Jasprit Bumrah surprised everyone with his act in the same over because he bowled the last three deliveries to Jayden Seales outside off-stump. The premier pacer purposely bowled such deliveries because he wanted to give Mohammed Siraj a shot at picking up a 5-wicket haul.

Dinesh Karthik said on-air, "I think he is bowling that length knowing Siraj is just one wicket away from a five-wicket haul".

However, Siraj was unable to do that in the next two overs he bowled and was restricted to just four wickets as the left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Warrican on the first ball of the 45th over to wrap up the innings.

Mohammed Siraj registers his best-ever bowling figures

Although Siraj didn't pick a 5-wicket haul, his figures of 4/40 against the West Indies were his best ever in a Test match in India.

Best figures for Mohammed Siraj in Test cricket in India:

4/40 vs West Indies, Ahmedabad, 2025*

4/84 vs England, Rajkot, 2024

3/19 vs New Zealand, Wankhede, 2021

2/30 vs Bangladesh, Chennai, 2024

2/45 vs England, Ahmedabad, 2021

Speaking on Star Sports, the former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra tried to decode a conversation between Siraj and Bumrah during the innings, and he hilariously said:

"They were discussing whether you'll take 5 wickets or I'll take 5 wickets. Bumrah said, no problem, I've just played the Asia Cup, you take 5 wickets."

He was resting when he hadn't played for the Asia Cup since the England tour - Aakash Chopra

Aakash Chopra further lauded Mohammed Siraj for once again showcasing a stunning performance with the ball in Test cricket after missing out on the Asia Cup squad. Chopra discussed wickets picked by Siraj in detail and elaborated:

"He hasn't played cricket for two months. He was resting when he hadn't played for the Asia Cup since the England tour. That's why he was given an extra over. He was given a bigger spell. You can never question how much effort he's putting in. He runs very fast. Whatever it is, he tries to give it all. And if there's a little help in the pitch, sometimes you get the support of luck.

"This was a lucky wicket because it wasn't a wicket taking ball. Scrambled seam, down the leg side. The batter thought, he would score runs, but that thought was shut down.

"And after that, the ball that came in, whether it was going away to the lefty or this ball, once again, the ball came in after hitting. He's not a swing bowler. He's a seam bowler. And he uses the scrambled seam very well. Brandon King gave him a little more support. You could see the off stump when he left the ball. He left the ball with his feet straight. This, of course, was another full ball. It went out a little. There wasn't much need for it. Alik hit it with a loose hand. And he was caught. It was a good catch in the slip."
