The Mumbai Indians (MI) have received a major boost as Jasprit Bumrah has landed in Mumbai and moved straight into the team hotel on Friday (March 27) evening. Jasprit Bumrah has been MI’s X-factor, and his return brought huge energy to the camp for the IPL 2026.
The five-time champions will kick off their IPL 2026 campaign against the three-time champions, Kolkata Knight Riders, on Sunday, March 29, at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Jasprit Bumrah joins Mumbai Indians camp ahead of IPL 2026
As reported by Cricbuzz, Jasprit Bumrah has already joined the Mumbai Indians squad on Friday, and he is all but confirmed to play in his team’s 2026 season opener against the KKR at Wankhede Stadium.

Bumrah was at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru for the last five days, but it is being said that there was no injury scare at all. It was only a normal fitness check where his workload was being tracked following India’s triumphant T20 World Cup 2026 campaign.
The ace Indian pacer bowled with full power during these sessions and proved that he is strong enough to take charge of the MI bowling attack again in the world’s biggest T20 league.
His return came at a perfect time, as MI started without him for four matches in the last season, which hurt them badly. They lost three out of those four games, which showed how much difference Bumrah can make.
When Jasprit Bumrah broke Lasith Malinga’s record
Last year, Bumrah reached a huge milestone for the Mumbai Indians last season. He went past Lasith Malinga and became MI’s top wicket-taker in IPL history. Malinga had 170 wickets, but Bumrah has now pulled ahead with 183, and he reached that milestone in just 145 matches.
He picked those wickets at an average of around 22, and his economy rate was 7.24. Since his debut in 2013, Bumrah has played only for the MI in the IPL. The Indian pacer also has a unique record of being the only MI player to take two five-wicket hauls in the IPL.
MI still waiting for 2 key players as they trained under the lights
However, Bumrah is back, but two MI players have not yet joined the camp. Mitchell Santner, who finished New Zealand’s T20I series against South Africa on March 25, is expected to arrive in India in a few days. However, Will Jacks will need more time to link with the Mumbai Indians due to personal work and is likely to join after a week.
Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya and his team trained under the Wankhede lights with full intensity on Friday night. At the same time, Kolkata Knight Riders also practiced at the same venue with nearly their complete group as both teams gear up for the high-voltage encounter.
However, KKR is also worried about Matheesha Pathirana, whose availability is still doubtful. Both the MI and KKR teams will have their final training session on Saturday, March 28.
