Former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa, a seasoned batter, has discussed many difficulties affecting the Indian squad and offered his views on potential captains.
India will need to prepare the next captain as Rohit Sharma approaches the end of his international playing days. Uthappa has chosen the best fast bowler in the world, Jasprit Bumrah, to lead India in Test matches.
In Rohit Sharma’s absence, Jasprit Bumrah recently captained India in the rescheduled fifth Test against England. India lost the Test, resulting in a 2-2 tie in the five-match series.
Bumrah, though, is highly creative with his tactics and methods and possesses one of the best minds on the Indian side. It makes sense that Uthappa wants the speedster to lead India in the longest format.

“According to me, (Jasprit) Bumrah would be a great captain for Test cricket. For ODI, the choices would be KL Rahul or Rishabh Pant,” Uthappa told in a ShareChat Audio Chatroom.
Uthappa also mentioned picking Rishabh Pant or KL Rahul to lead the next ODI team. Rahul hasn’t had the greatest of starts since he captained India in the three-match ODI series last year in South Africa, which India lost 0-3 in. While Rishabh Pant is still fairly young, he will probably adjust much more over the next few years.
In Pant’s captaincy, India drew the T20 series with South Africa 2-2 after being 0-2 down in the series. The decider was washed out due to rain. Rahul and Pant both have significant potential roles to play for India.
Both of them have led their respective IPL sides admirably well so selectors have a lot of time to think and see how they fare as captains in the next edition of the tournament for their respective sides.
