Sam Konstas played three Test matches in the 2024/25 season; however, he failed to score many runs after that first game and was thus dropped from the team. Since then, he has not played for Australia in any format. But now there has been some good news in his family, as his brother Billy will be representing an international team, not Australia.

Sam Konstas is the Australian batter who came into the limelight after making his debut in the 2024/25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) in Australia. He came into the limelight with his aggressive attitude towards Jasprit Bumrah. However, his battle with Bumrah and Virat Kohli was the one that turned the attention, as the batter played some ramp shots at the top of the order that helped Australia eventually win 3-1.

Sam Konstas' brother to play for Greece?

As per the reports from the BBC, Billy, who has been a grade cricketer in Sydney, also works as a cricket coach as well as a physiotherapist, is expected to represent Greece, as the European country that is yet to make its mark in international cricket, but has been an ICC member since 1995.

Apart from Billy, there is another Australian cricketer who is on the radar; the Hellenic Cricket Federation is trying to snatch him away in their attempt to qualify for the 2028 T20 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. Blake Nikitaras is a player from New South Wales and has represented Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League, is another cricketer whom HCF is trying to grab.

Greece in search of new Australian cricketers

BBC stated that Billy has joined the squad with another player, Blake Faunce, who has also featured in the age-group cricket for the Australian Capital Territory. Peter Hatzoglou and Nikitaras are also two cricketers who have been in discussion to join the HCF; however, they are not available for selection.

“The elder Konstas is joined in the squad by another Greek-Aussie in 21-year-old leg-spinning all-rounder Blake Faunce, who played representative age-group cricket for Australian Capital Territory.”

“Another Australian with Greek heritage, Peter Hatzoglou, has also been in discussions with the Greek federation, but is not currently eligible for selection.”

“At this stage, it seems unlikely Nikitaras and Hatzoglou will be available, but should Greece make it through a 10-team European sub-regional qualifier C then they could come into the mix,” BBC Sport said.

Greece to follow Italy's path

Greece is following Italy’s example, as they featured in the 2026 edition of the T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka; they picked eligible players from different countries who could lead them to the major tournament, and they did qualify for the main round and also won against Nepal by 10 wickets. They had five cricketers from Australia in their team.

Greece will also try to replicate the same in the qualifying rounds of the 2028 T20 World Cup and feature in the main round of the major event. It will be a historic moment for HCF if they qualify for the main round of the next T20 World Cup.
