The India National Cricket Team might have been facing England in the ongoing three-match ODI series, but all the eyes are on Jasprit Bumrah, their key weapon who is currently at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru for his medical assessments.

The Indian ace speedster is currently nursing a back spasm that he sustained during the fifth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Australia. Now, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Indian cricket team are eagerly waiting for his scan reports.

Jasprit Bumrah’s medical assessment completed at the NCA

On Friday, February 7, a Times of India report claimed that Jasprit Bumrah’s scans and complete assessment have been completed at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, and a comprehensive medical report is expected within the next 24 hours.

This report will play a crucial role in deciding the next steps for the fast bowler's comeback. It is also being said that Bumrah is likely to remain at the NCA in Bengaluru for discussions with the BCCI’s medical team and chalking out a clear plan for his rehabilitation and availability for selection.

Meanwhile, the Times of India report also revealed that New Zealand’s Dr. Rowan Schouten is likely to be kept in the loop for his expert opinion once the latest reports are ready. Actually, Bumrah's first scans were also shared with Dr. Schouten last month, so he will be consulted once the report comes. His insights are also likely to be taken into account in any decision-making.

NCA's medical report to determine Jasprit Bumrah's CT 2025 fate

Well, the Indian selectors have only five days to finalize their 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025, as the world’s governing body for cricket has set February 12 as the deadline to submit the final squads for the prestigious tournament.

The Men in Blue are currently in a spot of bother, as Virat Kohli is also facing the knee issues that ruled him out of the first ODI against England in Nagpur. Speaking about Bumrah’s availability, it totally depends on the scan reports and medical advice.

Earlier, Harshit Rana was named in the India squad for the first two ODIs against England, and even the young pacer made his debut in Nagpur, where he scalped three wickets to help the hosts win the first game by four wickets to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series.

Aakash Chopra hints at Jasprit Bumrah's absence for ICC Champions Trophy 2025 after Harshit Rana's ODI debut

However, the former Indian cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra has seen this situation from a different angle, as he suggested that Harshit Rana’s ODI debut is a clear hint that there are very slim chances of Bumrah’s availability for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Aakash Chopra said in a video on his YouTube channel, “Harshit Rana's debut tells me there are minimal chances of Jasprit Bumrah being available for the Champions Trophy. If Bumrah is not there and you have to take Harshit as he is ahead of [Mohammed] Siraj at the moment, playing him without a debut would make your heart beat fast.”
