Jasprit Bumrah’s Test captaincy in danger as pacer to consult personal doctor for back issues

India National Cricket Team fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has come under massive scanner after the injury during the last game of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. The fast bowler experienced a back spasm during the first innings of the Sydney Test and then didn't come out to bowl.

There is no clarity over the extent of injury that Jasprit Bumrah faced, and it has kept many wondering if the premier pacer will be playing in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 or not. But as per the reports in Sports Tak, it is learned that the exact nature of his injury will be revealed soon.

Jasprit Bumrah, as per the reports in Sports Tak, will be consulting his personal doctor, who operated on him in New Zealand, along with the BCCI medical team. After the checkup, the doctors will have the final call on what treatment the pacer needs along with the rehabilitation process.

A source close to the developments said that Jasprit Bumrah confirmed the same, saying that the fast bowler will be given rest if needed.

He stressed that the call would be taken after knowing the nature of his injury. He said:

"What he has to do and what suggestions he has to take this is all between BCCI doctors and his doctor who had operated on him in New Zealand, you will know in some days the exact nature of the injury and status....everything depends on him personally...

"He is in touch with doctors and he will be assessed further to know the exact injury and level, if he requires rest, he will be given there is no doubt about it but before that, we need to know his exact injury then only doctors will decide the next step call will be taken accordingly, as of now. We can only hope and wish that he recovers soon."

Rishabh Pant's name is also being considered for Test captaincy as Jasprit Bumrah struggles with his fitness

Amid the things related to his fitness, there were reports in RevSportz that there will be discussions about not handing Jasprit Bumrah Test captaincy due to his workload. It will be taken into consideration that if the fast bowler is given leadership, will he be able to play all the games.

The reports added that Rishabh Pant's name is also being considered for Test captaincy since he has been doing well in the format. Immediately, there won't be any call related to the same and the discussions around it will be taken around the England series.

As far as Bumrah is concerned, it is learned that the fast bowler will be given rest for the three-match ODI series against England. This is because the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) wants the fast bowler to be fit for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
