Jay Shah bends rule as Pratika Rawal finally receives her World Cup medal

Indian women's cricketer Pratika Rawal has revealed that she will be receiving her World Cup winner's medal after the current ICC Chairman Jay Shah's intervention. Rawal was a crucial part of the World Cup campaign for India but was ruled out of the squad just before the knockouts.
The Indian team won the World Cup title for the first time in the history of the game and received widespread love from fans and spectators from around the world. Pratika Rawal was a campaigner who played a major role for India in their World Cup campaign.
India earned the victory over the 7-time champions, Australia, in the semi-finals of the World Cup and then defeated the South African women, who also qualified for their first World Cup final, to secure the World Cup title.
“Jay Shah told us that he is asking the ICC if they can send a medal," said Pratik Rawal
India defeated South Africa to win their maiden ICC Women's World Cup title last Sunday. The Indian opener Pratika Rawal was the second-highest run-scorer for India Women in the World Cup before being ruled out of the World Cup with an ankle injury ahead of the knockouts.
India played their last league match against Bangladesh, and recently, in an exclusive conversation with CNN News18, Rawal revealed that ICC Chairman Jay Shah had assured her of handing her World Cup-winning medal.
“Jay Shah told us that he is asking the ICC if they can send a medal. So that medal is going to take some time to reach me. So, one of the support staff gave me their medal to wear for now. Consider that I have my own. So, the medal is on the way," she said.

The Indian player Pratika Rawal was replaced by star cricketer Shafali Varma in the Indian Women's team ahead of the semi-final match against Australia. Shafali Varma played a very crucial hand for India, especially in the final. She top-scored with the bat and also picked two crucial wickets for India.
In the post-match ceremony, Shafali Verma, alongside the other players in the women's team, was handed the winner's medal. However, Rawal was not given the medal, as she was ruled out during the last phase.
“Jay Shah texted our manager that I want to make arrangements to get medal for Pratika," Rawal said. “So, finally, I now do have my own medal. The first time I opened it up (medal given to her by support staff) and, I looked towards it, I was almost in tears. I’m not a person who cries a lot but that emotion was real, that feeling of join us."

The Indian team arrived at the Prime Minister's residence after the success of the ICC Women's World Cup 2025. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side met PM Narendra Modi at his residence, and Pratika Rawal was part of it.
Having played in 7 games in the competition, Pratika Rawal opened for India alongside the veteran Smriti Mandhana, who top-scored for India in the tournament. Rawal scored 308 runs at an average of 51.33.
