Jay Shah, who is currently the chairman of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is set to head the annual general meeting (AGM) of the ACC which is a two-day meeting scheduled in Bali, Indonesia on 30th January and 31st January.

He is the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Jay Shah is one of the strongest administration figures in the cricketing world and is looking to be the chairperson of the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Over the two-day event in Bali Indonesia, the ACC will hold discussions on broadcasting rights, the venue of the Asia Cup is also to be discussed in the meeting with new contenders like Oman also in the race to host the multi-nation tournament.

The Asia Cup is expected to be played in the T20 format this time and it will be interesting to see which country hosts the tournament this year. The ACC has invited all the broadcasters for a dinner on Tuesday.

While the election is not officially on the agenda, it may be discussed during the meeting. Currently, Jay Shah holds the position of the president of the ACC, a role that rotates among full members of the council every two years.

Jay Shah is presently in the midst of his second two-year term, but his continuation is contingent on his purported shift to the International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman role which is an independent post.

Elections for the ICC chairman position are scheduled for November, and in that regard, the outcome of the ACC meeting will provide indications about various leadership roles in world cricket.

Jay Shah’s administration is one of the best in terms of cricket boards and he has brought huge revenues for the BCCI under his role of the secretary. The BCCI draws most of its revenue from the Indian Premier League (IPL) which is India’s lucrative T20 league.

Jay Shah To Contest In The ICC Chairperson’s Elections

Jay Shah is expected to contest the elections for the new ICC chairperson which will be held in November this year. The current ICC chairman is Greg Barclay and he has been the chairman of the ICC since 2020.

Previously, Barclay was the chairman of the New Zealand Cricket (NZC) serving from 2016 to 2020. Jay Shah is expected to leave his ACC chairman’s position to contest in the elections for the ICC chairman.

Jay Shah holds two of the strongest positions in cricket administration and has been the secretary of the BCCI since 2019. He is the youngest secretary of the BCCI amongst five office-bearers. He also served as the joint secretary of the Gujarat Cricket Association and also managed the construction of the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

He is the son of the current home minister of India, Mr. Amit Shah. The post of the ICC chairman is an independent position which means that if Jay Shah wants to contest for the position, he will have to leave his chair in the ACC and most probably the BCCI also.
