Geoff Allardice has stepped down as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the International Cricket Council (ICC) after serving in the role for four years. Allardice has cited his desire to "pursue new challenges" as the reason behind his sudden resignation from the top position.
Allardice joined the International Cricket Council back in 2012 as the General Manager of Cricket after working as the Cricket Operations Manager for Cricket Australia (CA). He was then appointed as the International Cricket Council CEO in November 2021, following an eight-month stint as the acting CEO.

The former Australian cricketer’s resignation comes at the start of Jay Shah’s tenure as International Cricket Council Chair. Shah, who previously served as the BCCI Secretary, took over from Greg Barclay on December 1. Jay Shah expressed gratitude to Allardice for his services as CEO.
The International Cricket Council Chair Shah also hailed Allardice's efforts in promoting cricket across the world and wished him success in his future endeavors in an official statement.
Jay Shah said in the media release: “On behalf of the ICC Board, I want to sincerely thank Geoff for his leadership and commitment during his tenure as Chief Executive. His efforts have played a key role in advancing cricket globally. We are truly grateful for his service and wish him all the very best in his future endeavors.”
ICC to begin Geoff Allardice’s successor search soon
Allardice’s resignation came after International Cricket Council senior management, including Alex Marshall (anti-corruption head), Chris Tetley (head of events), and Claire Furlong (general manager of marketing and communication) all left their respective positions recently.
On Tuesday, January 28, the International Cricket Council confirmed that “Geoff Allardice has decided to step down as International Cricket Council Chief Executive.”. The governing body also announced that the board would begin the process of finding Allardice’s successor soon.
However, they did not confirm whether he would leave immediately or stay on until the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025.

Meanwhile, Geoff Allardice expressed pride in his tenure as International Cricket Council CEO and thanked the ICC Chair, board, and cricket community for their support over 13 years. He said that it was the right time to step down and chase new challenges while extending wishes to the board and world cricket.
Allardice said in an International Cricket Council media release: “It has been a privilege to serve as the Chief Executive Officer of the International Cricket Council, and I am incredibly proud of the results we have achieved, from enhancing the global reach of cricket to the commercial foundation put in place for ICC Members.”
He added, “I’d like to thank the ICC Chair, the board of directors, and the entire cricket community for their support and collaboration over the past 13 years. I believe this is the right time for me to step down and pursue new challenges. I am confident that cricket has exciting times ahead, and I wish the ICC and the global cricket community every success in the future.
