Jay Shah's ICC threatens to KICK OUT Bangladesh from T20 World Cup 2026, replacement finalized

The BCB had threatened not to participate in the ICC T20 World Cup, but the ICC has now named a replacement based on current rankings if Bangladesh does not follow the ultimatum issued to them by the ICC.
The Indo-Bangladesh feud began with the snub of Mustafizur Rahman from IPL 2026, according to the BCCI's diktat, which was issued after unrest in the nation following the atrocities against Hindus in the nation of Bangladesh. The long-standing issue still remains unresolved.
The BCB had then started threatening the ICC with withdrawal from the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup if their plea for a change of venue from India to Sri Lanka was not obliged to. However, the ICC, citing several logistical issues, had turned them down.
ICC issues ultimatum to BCB for upcoming T20 World Cup
According to a report on ESPNcricinfo, the ICC has issued an ultimatum to the BCB regarding its participation in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. The Jay Shah-led international committee has informed the board that January 21 will be the deadline for them to make a final call on Bangladesh's involvement in the upcoming T20 World Cup.
The report confirmed that the BCB during the ICC delegate meeting in Dhaka had shown their interest in featuring in the ICC tournament, but not in India. Despite a clear logistical issue stated by the ICC, BCB continued pushing for an alternative in Sri Lanka.
The ICC had, however, chosen not budge an inch this time and has stood firm with their original schedule, under which Bangladesh are scheduled to play their matches originally in India, as they are slated to play in Kolkata and Mumbai.
ICC turned down Bangladesh's request to name a replacement for the T20 World Cup
The issue was first raised back on January 4th, and since then, it has been escalated for nearly three weeks by the BCB's stubbornness and some external help from other boards. It is also to be noted that Mustafizur Rahman, the player, had, however, decided not to challenge the BCCI's diktat.
The BCB, out of desperation, had requested the ICC to swap groups with Ireland, a team that is in the same group as Australia, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka and have all their matches scheduled in Sri Lanka. However, the ICC turned it down as well and cleared to the BCB that there is no security threat in India.
While the International body has been patient for a long time, the report from ESPNcricinfo added that if the BCB chooses not to participate, then the governing body will name a replacement team based on the current rankings, and Scotland is the frontrunner as the possible beneficiary.
Pakistan to reconsider T20 World Cup participation if the Bangladesh issue remains unresolved
After BCB had made their standpoint clear, a report from GEO News revealed that even the PCB would reconsider their decision to participate in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 if the BCB issue remains unresolved.
Though Pakistan's terms have all been met by both the BCCI and the ICC. According to a deal that was signed ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Pakistan have all its matches scheduled in a neutral venue in Sri Lanka.
The PCB had also shown interest in hosting the matches of Bangladesh on their own grounds if Sri Lanka is unavailable to host their game.
