Mumbai’s prestigious cricket club Khar Gymkhana has revoked the membership of the Indian women’s cricket team star Jemimah Rodrigues, following explosive allegations regarding the use of the club’s premises for "religious activities".
The Khar Gymkhana club, which is known for its elite heritage, found itself at the center of the controversy after some members raised concerns about "religious activities" allegedly conducted the premisses by Jemimah Rodrigues' father, Ivan Rodrigues.

The club members objected to what they described as questionable events hosted over the past year and a half by Rodrigues' father and an organization, claiming that these gatherings were aimed at "converting the vulnerable."
This startling revelation prompted immediate action from the club during their annual general body meeting. The club unanimously decided to revoke the honorary three-year membership granted to Jemimah Rodrigues.
An external organization linked to Ivan Rodrigues was hosting religious events that violated the institution's strict guidelines against such activities, according to Khar Gymkhana’s bylaws, Rule 4A of the constitution.
Concerns deepened after the club members claimed that the events featured everything from loud trance music to grand audiovisual displays, and even some organization members were trying to convince the people to believe in their religion.
It was against the club’s pride and tradition. Well, Jemimah Rodrigues and her family have remained tight-lipped despite the club trying to contact them through texts and calls, leaving members and fans stunned.
Conversions were happening right under our noses: club member
Khar Gymkhana president Vivek Devnani was quoted as saying by The Indian Express: “The honorary three-year membership given to Ms. Jemimah Rodrigues was revoked pursuant to a resolution passed by the members who attended the general meeting held on October 20, 2024.”
Meanwhile, Shiv Malhotra, Khar Gymkhana managing committee member, claimed that the Brother Manuel Ministries—the organization of which part is Rodrigues’s father—were massively involved in the conversions at the presidential hall.
Mr. Malhotra said: “We came to know that Jemimah Rodrigues’s father was attached to an organization called Brother Manuel Ministries. They booked the presidential hall for almost a year and a half and held 35 events. We all know what was happening there. We hear about conversions all over the country, but it’s happening right under our nose.
There was dancing, expensive music equipment, and big screens. As per Khar Gymkhana’s bylaws Rule 4A of the constitution, Khar Gymkhana does not permit any religious activity.”
Nitin Gadekar reveals how the organization were converting vulnerable people to Christianity
On the other hand, former club president Nitin Gadekar revealed some chilling details about the “religious activity” conducted at the club by the cricketer’s father and his organization. After witnessing all these things, they decided to cancel Jemimah’s membership, said Gadekar.
Nitin Gadekar signed off by saying, “Me, Malhotra and a few other members went to see it. We saw the room was dark, trance music was playing and a lady was saying ‘He is coming to save us’. I was surprised how Gymkhana can allow this in the first place. We protested and it was decided to cancel her membership.”
