In the Ranji Trophy 2022 campaign, Jharkhand established a total lead of 1008 runs against Nagaland. There has not been a time in First-Class cricket history when a side has held such a large advantage over its opponent over two innings. Although the game finished in a tie, Jharkhand moved to the quarter-finals.

Jharkhand came into the Ranji Trophy encounter against Nagaland flexing their biceps in the hopes of surpassing some of the most incredible milestones in First-Class cricket.

When Jharkhand scored 880 runs in the first inning, it was evident that the score would be too much for the team to win the game. The intention from Jharkhand was to impose follow-on on their rivals after packing out Nagaland just 289 runs. The squad, however, opted to bat for the second time, much to everyone’s shock.

Jharkhand scored another 417 runs in the second innings to increase their overall lead to a stunning 1008 runs, a number never before seen in First-Class cricket. Bombay had previously held a 958-run lead against Maharashtra in 1948-49.

Jharkhand Qualified for the Ranji Trophy Quarterfinals:

People were expecting Jharkhand to enforce the follow-on and not bat for the second time after the first-innings margin of 591 runs. Saurabh Tiwary and his colleagues, on the other hand, appear to have wished to leave their mark on history. As a result, the decision was made not to impose follow-on. Although the game finished in a tie, Jharkhand moved to the quarter-finals.

Jharkhand batsmen scored three hundred and one double century in the game. Nagaland, who’d already won their plate group, spent the majority of the game fielding and bowled 294 overs in all.

SS Rao, the head coach of Jharkhand, justified the team’s choice to keep batting, claiming that the goal was not to set a new record but rather to give even part-timers a platform to bat.

Bengal, Mumbai, Karnataka, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand have all advanced to the quarterfinals, while Jharkhand has also qualified.
