Indian fans slammed Sanju Samson after he fell cheaply in the second T20I against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in Melbourne on Friday (October 31). Sanju Samson was sent to bat at No. 3 after Shubman Gill was dismissed for 5 by Josh Hazlewood.
However, the Indian wicketkeeper-batter failed to make the most of the opportunity against Australia. Samson tried to play a full delivery while standing deep inside his crease, but the ball nipped back sharply and hit him on the back leg.
It was a sharp in-swinger from Nathan Ellis. Later, the ball-tracking confirmed that the ball hit the leg stump, and Samson was given out LBW for just 2 runs off 4 balls.
Following his dismissal, fans have been questioning the Kerala star’s place in the T20I side and even suggesting that he should consider retiring from the format.

Also I think it's time we give Jitesh Sharma a free run in the T20 side. Our major issue is the finishing department, jitesh helps solve that issue. Sanju Samson has been given a long enough rope and he is extremely inconsistent.

Nathan Ellis haunts Sanju Samson again
Sanju Samson’s woes against Nathan Ellis continue during the second T20I, as the Indian wicketkeeper-batter once again fell to the right-arm Australian pacer. Their head-to-head numbers in T20s show a clear picture of Ellis’s dominance over Sanju.
In just three innings, Samson has faced 13 deliveries from Ellis, managing to score only 12 runs while being dismissed all three times.
Sanju Samson's T20 struggle continues
Samson didn’t get the chance to bat in the first game of the ongoing five-match T20I series, as the rain washed out the match in Canberra. But his stats are not impressive either. After hitting fifty against Oman in the Asia Cup 2025, he failed to make any significant impact with the bat.
In his last six outings, Samson managed only 2, 24, 39, and 13, and twice he didn’t bat for India in the T20Is. He has six single-digit scores in the last 15 T20Is. The Rajasthan Royals captain also had an ordinary IPL 2025 season, scoring only 285 runs in 9 games.
India lose half their side inside the Powerplay in the second T20I
Meanwhile, the Men in Blue are in deep trouble against Australia in the ongoing second T20I, losing five wickets for just 49 runs inside 8 overs. Tilak Varma had high expectations, but he was dismissed for a duck, while captain Suryakumar Yadav (1) also disappointed the team after the Canberra blitz.
Axar Patel ran out for seven, while Gill and Samson could not face even more than 10 deliveries against Australia. Abhishek Sharma (36*) is dealing with boundaries, but India needs a big partnership at this stage to recover from early setbacks. Interestingly, Harshit Rana was sent ahead of Shivam Dube.
