Joe Root is excited for a thrilling new chapter in their Test journey as England is gearing up to face Pakistan in the opening game of the three-match Test series in Multan, starting on October 7 with a fresh and dynamic bowling attack.

Root denied any doubts regarding England’s new-look pace attack, and he is fully confident that they can trouble Pakistani batters without retired James Anderson, Ollie Robinson, and Mark Wood in the upcoming Test series, which is part of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25.

Joe Root confident in fresh bowling lineup ahead of Multan Test

England’s Test squad is set to undergo a thrilling transformation as they unveiled a fresh and dynamic bowling lineup for the highly anticipated first Test against Pakistan in Multan. With the debut of Brydon Carse and the inclusion of rising star Gus Atkinson, alongside the seasoned spinner Jack Leach, England is ready to shake things up on the Pakistan tour.

All eyes are now on how this revamped attack will fare in the unique Pakistani conditions, as England has relied on a familiar set of bowlers for years. Chris Woakes, Atkinson, and Carse form a trio of pace options, blending experience with raw potential for the Multan Test.

Meanwhile, Leach teams up with the young sensation Shoaib Bashir to lead the spin department. And Joe Root said that it is a fascinating combination of speed and spin that promises to test Pakistan's batting lineup and bring fresh energy to the England cricket team.

We can do something very special again in Pakistan: Joe Root

He further noted that the key factor driving this change is the opportunity to adapt to the Pakistani conditions. In Pakistan, where spin can be a decisive factor, the inclusion of Bashir alongside Leach offers a balanced attack, which is expected to be capable of exploiting unpredictable pitches.

Atkinson and Carse, both making waves with their aggressive styles, add an extra dimension to the pace attack, ensuring England has the firepower to challenge Pakistan’s batters at every turn. This new-look attack not only hinted at England’s intent to revolutionize but also highlighted the depth of talent emerging within the squad.

Carse, in particular, is expected to make a significant impact, as his pace and ability to generate movement could prove crucial on the flatter Pakistani wickets. On the other hand, Atkinson brings his own brand of controlled aggression, giving England a potent combination that could surprise Pakistan in the upcoming Test series.

It's an exciting prospect to have a completely new attack: Joe Root

Joe Root said at the press conference, “I think it's an exciting prospect, having a completely new attack. It's a great opportunity for us to grow and develop as a Test squad and to try something very different. I think for a long time before that last series here, we generally had a very similar attack in all conditions.

"And for us to now have a slightly different way of looking at the game and approaching things and trying to exploit what's right in front of us is a really exciting way to look at the game, and it's a great opportunity for this group to do things differently again.

"Those sorts of chances and opportunities that come around really excite the group, and what a chance to go out here and potentially do something very special again. I'd say I've got some very fond memories of coming here last time and what an achievement that was, so if we could get off to a really good start in this game, then hopefully we could build on that and take it even further.”
