Joe Root, England's batting maestro, is currently enjoying the dream run of his career, as he shattered a plethora of records en route to his sixth double ton in Test cricket.

Root delivered a breathtaking performance in the ongoing first Test between England and Pakistan in Multan and rewrote the history books once again in the process in Multan.

Joe Root shatters multiple records with sixth double century in Multan Test

The England superstar reached a remarkable milestone on Day 4 of the Multan Test, scoring his sixth double-century in Test cricket to cement his reputation as one of the finest batters of his generation.

Root's extraordinary innings have not only marked a personal achievement but also made him England's second-highest double-centurion, surpassing the legendary Alastair Cook.

Previously, Cook held the record for the second-most double-centuries by an England player in Test cricket with five double-tons. Root now sits just one double century behind Walter Reginald Hammond, England's all-time leader with seven double-tons in the longest format of the game.

Joe Root becomes the first England player with two double hundreds against Pakistan and reaches 20,000 international runs

With this phenomenal feat, Joe Root also became the first England player to score two double-hundreds against Pakistan, proving his dominance over the Asian rivals.

While other English giants like Denis Compton, Ted Dexter, and Zak Crawley have achieved a single double-hundred against Pakistan, Root's is above them with two double-hundreds.

Adding to the historical significance of his innings, Root’s double century is the first by an England batter in Pakistan since Ted Dexter’s 205 runs in Karachi back in 1962. In another feather in his cap, Root became the first England player to reach a staggering 20,000 runs in international cricket.

Root's century against Pakistan marked his fifth of 2024, tying him with Sri Lanka's Kamindu Mendis for the most Test centuries made this year. The former England captain’s combination of skill, temperament, and longevity has made him an all-time batting great.

I feel tired, more than anything: Joe Root

Meanwhile, Root batted through cramp to finish Day 3 on 176, playing a crucial role in partnerships of 109, 136, and an unbeaten 243 with Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, and Harry Brook, respectively. After 250 overs over three days of play, Root had spent just eight balls off the field.

Root said after the stumps on Day 3 of the Multan Test: “I feel tired, more than anything. It's been a long day. I'm obviously proud, but I still feel as though there's plenty more left to do and many more runs to get. I'm sure I'll look back on it at some point when I'm finished and be very proud of it.”

On being asked whether Multan Ton was his best among the past 34 centuries, Root noted: “Your best one is always your next one. You've got to keep staying hungry to find ways to keep contributing and getting better." It is that hunger that has defined his career, ever since he first picked up a bat.”
