England skipper Joe Root once again looked in his elements during the fourth morning of the Nottingham Test and in the process, he went on to complete 1000 Test runs in the calendar year.
And, in the process, the English Test skipper has become the second batter to cross 1000 runs in the format in the fewest days after former batsman Dennis Amis.
Joe Root has thus far smashed 1011 runs in 18 innings at an average of 59.47 which includes two half-century, three tons, and two double hundreds.
The champion English batsman started the year on an imperious note as he smashed a double hundred in Galle before smoking another match-winning daddy hundred in the second Test to lead England to a 2-0 series win.

Root started the Indian tour with a bang as he smashed yet another double ton in Chennai to help England take a 1-0 lead in the four-match series.
But his form tapered off in the next three Tests post which he had another disappointing outing against the Kiwis on home soil earlier this year.
After enduring a streak of 12 consecutive innings without a half-century, Joe Root finally shrugged off his poor run with an imperious half-century in the first innings of the ongoing Nottingham Test.
And, the champion batter has picked off from where he left in the first innings as he brought up yet another 50+ score in the second innings, a knock that has seen him smash as many as nine fours.
Root is critical to England’s chances of building a match-winning lead and he will be looking to get past the three-figure mark once he resumes his innings after the lunch break.
