Joe Root recently surpassed Alastair Cook to become the leading run-getter for England in the Tests

Joe Root, of late, has been in hot form in Test cricket. He has piled up truckloads of runs for the England National Cricket Team and recently surpassed Alastair Cook to lead the charts for Three Lions in Tests. He also has the most centuries by English batter in the longest formats of the game.

Joe Root didn't have the kind of game he would have wanted against NZ, as he bagged a duck in the first innings. But thankfully, that didn't cost the England National Cricket Team much as they went on to win the game after their heroics with bat and ball across the innings.

England won the first Test against New Zealand with 8 wickets in hand

England, who opted to bowl field, ended New Zealand's innings on 348 runs and then came up with the staggering effort with the bat. They declared the innings on 499 runs and took a massive lead of over 100 runs in the first innings, putting the opposition under pressure.

In the second innings, the New Zealand National Cricket Team got all out for just 254 runs, setting the England National Cricket Team a target of 104 runs to chase. The Ben Stokes-led side achieved the target in 12.4 overs with 8 wickets in hand and took an early lead in the series. The second Test between the teams begins on Friday.
