Joe Root has a great trust in Dawid Malan to emerge as a powerful opener for England in their upcoming Test clash against India. England has dropped Dom Sibley from the opening slot for the upcoming 3rd Test against India at Headingly, Leeds. Left-handed batsman Dawid Malan will occupy Sibley’s opening spot.

Right-handed batsman Dom Sibley opened the innings with Rory Burns in the previous two games. In 4 innings, he could only score 57 runs at an average of 14.25. His scores read 18, 28, 11, and 0. After both the England openers were gone for a duck in the 2nd innings of the previous Lord’s Test, many former England cricketers and cricket experts had voiced opinions to reshuffle the opening pair of Joe Root’s side.

We Know That Dawid Malan Is Capable Of Big Things, Says Joe Root

While speaking to the media during a virtual press conference, Joe Root backed Dawid Malan as the new opener for the team in the next game. The England captain mentioned that Malan is capable of big things and owns a lot of experience at the top order.

“Dawid obviously offers a lot of experience in that top three, not necessarily in terms of experience in Test cricket, but he has played a huge amount of international cricket now, he’s dealt with pressure situations.

“He’s played a lot of red ball cricket over the course of his career and he’s also had great successes in a massive series in Australia and was our leading scorer out there, so we know that he’s capable of big things,” Joe Root said.

Joe Root also mentioned that his team will try to be the best version of themselves during the 3rd Test against India and not indulge in unnecessary verbal arguments like the Lord’s Test.

“There’s the theatre and everything else surrounding the game. We’ve got to make sure that we play the game how we want to play and we look after that as best as we can, and not get too distracted or drawn into anything that’s not honest.

“We’ve got to be genuine to ourselves, genuine to how we are as individuals and how we are collectively and be as good as we can, the way that we go. Virat’s team will play how they play, I just want us to go out and be the best version of ourselves,” Root further said.
