England pacer Jofra Archer has been ruled out team’s upcoming white-ball tour against West Indies next month. As per ESPNcricinfo, the fast bowler felt pain in his elbow while training with the team during the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023.

Jofra Archer wasn’t part of the England squad for the World Cup. He joined the team late as a traveling reserve and underwent his rehabilitation there. However, he experienced pain and then went back home.

Jofra Archer had two light training sessions with the team and then suffered pain. His fresh injury forced England to call Brydon Carse as a replacement for injured Reece Topley rather than adding a traveling reserve. Him suffering pain has now ruled him out of the ODI and T20I series against West Indies.

England’s managing director Rob Key said that they expected Jofra Archer to be fit by the end of the World Cup. He also revealed that his scans also came clear. He explained:

“Originally, the thought was that he was going to be alright for the back end of the competition. It was a risk worth taking. He had his scans, and they all came up clear.”

“He flies over here, comes out to Mumbai, bowls, and actually then he felt pain in his elbow. So then, the view was, ‘right, this is going to be a risk too far’. Because of the upside, that’s what lures you in.

“You start looking at things like the Ashes in two years, the T20 World Cup… Jofra adds so much to that. You don’t want to risk rushing something to see that kibosh the rest of his career. So we then said, ‘right, fine, this isn’t the right way to go.”

“Rather than just keep him hanging around and not really doing anything, let’s send him back home and get in Brydon Carse who had been preparing.'”

WI vs ENG: Until he’s ready and fit, he won’t be in the squad – Rob Key On Jofra Archer

Rob Key further said that until Jofra Archer is fully fit they won’t name him in the team. He said that they need to be careful about him considering the next Ashes and the T20 World Cup.

“Until he’s ready and fit, he won’t be in the squad – and even then, he’s going to take a period of building up. It’s not going to be straightforward, and we’ve got to be so careful.”

“We’re desperate for Jofra. We take that bet with him that we want him back fit and able to play for England, because of the upside.”

Jofra Archer missed a lot of cricketing action due to the elbow. He recently made a comeback to cricket during the ODI series against England. He played a few games in IPL as well but again was ruled out of the action.
