Jomel Warrican beats Varun Chakravarthy to win ICC Men’s Player of the Month Award for January 2025

West Indies National Cricket Team player Jomel Warrican has been crowned as the ICC Player of the Month for January. The spinner beat India's Varun Chakravarthy and Pakistan's Noman Ali to win the award for the first time in his career.

Jomel Warrican won the ICC Player of the Month award on the back of sensational performances that he delivered in the Test series against the Pakistan National Cricket Team. His heroics with the ball helped West Indies National Cricket Team register their first-ever Test win in the Asian country in 35 years.

Jomel Warrican came up with his best effort in the first Test, which took place at the Multan Cricket Stadium in Multan. He returned with the career-best figures of 10/101 and also made a valuable contribution with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 31 runs. But his effort went in vain as his team lost the game by 127 runs.

Jomel Warrican continued his golden form with the ball in the next game as well. He first played a vital hand of 36 runs with the bat and then chipped in with four wickets in the first innings. After that, in the second essay, he slammed 18 runs and bagged a fifer, returning with the figures of 5/27 to help West Indies win the game by 120 runs.

Overall in the series, Jomel Warrican scored 85 runs at an average of 42.50 (the best for West Indies) and claimed 19 wickets at an exceptional average of nine. For his exceptional performance with the bat and ball, he was also awarded the Player of the Series award.

Jomel Warrican talked about winning the award, saying that he had set himself a goal to take a fifer. He also revealed that he promised his skipper to do something special in the series and he is glad that he performed in front of his father. He said:

"It’s an honour to win this award. One of my goals for this year was my first five-for in Test cricket, but I did not think that it would be this grand! I see this as one small step in my cricketing career, and I look forward to many more. I promised my captain something special in this series, especially when my father, my biggest supporter, predicted a phenomenal performance for me.

"Multan has a special place in my heart: not only because of the historic win for the West Indies, beating Pakistan away from home but also by earning this prestigious award.”

Beth Mooney wins ICC Women's Player of the Month award

In terms of the ICC Women's Player of the Month award, Beth Mooney has been awarded for her heroics with the bat. Australia's opener was one of the main reasons behind the success of the team last month as she contributed consistently for the team.

In the three T20Is that she played, Beth Mooney slammed 213 runs at an average of 106.50 and an exceptional strike rate of 146.89. In the three ODIs, she mustered 90 runs at an average of 30 and a strike rate of 82.56.

Talking about winning the award, she said: “It’s an honour to be named the ICC Women’s Player of the Month and I’d like to thank everyone who voted for me. January was an incredible month for the Australian Women’s Cricket Team.

"Winning the Ashes in front of a home crowd was very special and to complete the series playing in the first ever day-night Test at the MCG in front of a record crowd for a Women’s Test is a moment that we will all never forget. This team continues to achieve amazing results, and I am so proud to be a part of it.”
