England captain Jos Buttler looked in excellent form during the first T20I of the series against India at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Buttler was the only England batter who made a significant impact as he slammed 68 off just 44 balls with 8 fours and 2 sixes.

After this knock, he achieved a monumental feat and equaled West Indies' Nicholas Pooran. Buttler batted at an unusual spot of No. 3 instead of opening the innings. But he looked in great form and played both the fast bowlers and the spinners with ease.

India thrash England to go 1-0 up

While Jos Buttler played an exceptional innings at Eden Gardens, it wasn't enough for his team as England were thoroughly dominated by India in the first T20I. India captain Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and India put England to bat first on a tricky surface.

The pitch looked like a belter but left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh struck in his first over to land a huge blow on the visitors. Arshdeep dismissed Phil Salt for a duck and then removed the other opener Ben Duckett in his next over.

After a good partnership between captain Jos Buttler and vice-captain Harry Brook, England looked like getting back on the track, However, Varun Chakravarthy had other ideas as he broke the partnership by dismissing Harry Brook off a beauty.

Chakravarthy didn't stop here and dismissed Liam Livingstone a couple of balls later. It started a collapse for England and they kept losing wickets. With Jos Buttler's wicket, England's hopes of getting a big score dashed down and they were all out for 132 in 20 overs.

In reply, India started in a blistering fashion with the openers Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma tonking the England quicks out of the park. Samson was dismissed for 26 but Abhishek carried on in his merry way. Abhishek smashed 79 off just 34 balls and struck 5 fours and 8 sixes in his knock.

Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya stayed till the end and took India to a brilliant win in just 12.5 overs. India is now 1-0 up in the series with four more matches to be played.
