Jos Buttler is set to miss the upcoming tri-nation ODI series in Pakistan because of the hamstring injury which he received while batting in Thursday's second one-day international against Sri Lanka at Headingley. In place of the injured keeper-batter, Jordan Cox is likely to travel with the England national cricket team to Pakistan for the tri-nation ODI series.
The hamstring injury also makes Jos Buttler uncertain for the white-ball series against the Australian national cricket team. England's white-ball head coach Brendon McCullum told the media that it is hard to judge when the experienced keeper-batter will make a return for the national cricket team.
Jos Buttler's return for England is uncertain
His return is a major blow for the team, as they are currently preparing for the upcoming ODI World Cup,p which will be next year.
"We know Jos is an incredible athlete; we know he is supremely fit and is an ultra-professional. He will do everything he can to be back as soon as possible," Brendon McCullum stated.
The England cricket team will also tour to Australia for a white-ball series in November. Ahead of the high-profile main series, the touring team is expected to play multiple practice matches on the land of the Aussies.
For the white-ball series, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is yet to finalize their main squad. The main squad is expected to be around a fresh batch of centrally contracted players. According to a BBC report published on September 28, the ECB will finalise their squads on Monday.
Brendon McCullum made it clear that Buttler will not be available for the series in Pakistan, which will be a massive blow for the England cricket team.
"Jos won’t be in Pakistan," limited-overs coach Brendon McCullum confirmed.
But McCullum refused to stay only with disappointment, as every coin has two opposite sites. In the absence of the 36-year-old, there will be an emerging cricketer in the playing combination, which will add more excitmenet in the game.
