Former England captain Michael Vaughan reckoned England wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler to take over Royal Challengers Bangalore’s captaincy from Virat Kohli in IPL 2022.

Ahead of the second leg of IPL 2021, Kohli announced that he would be giving up RCB’s captaincy at the end of the season after nearly leading the team for a decade.

Given that RCB are knocked out of IPL 2021 after losing to Kolkata Knight Riders by four wickets on Wednesday in Sharjah, the fans and cricket world won’t see Kohli continue as the team’s leader from the next edition onwards.

I would choose Jos Buttler to captain RCB: Michael Vaughan

Buttler, who is England’s vice-captain in all formats, has played for Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals in IPL. He was part of Royals for the IPL 2021 season but made himself unavailable for the second leg in UAE as he wanted to be with his family after his second child’s birth.

Vaughan wants to see his compatriot lead RCB in the upcoming season irrespective of what Rajasthan Royals’ retention plans are for the England player.

” I would choose Jos Buttler to go there and be the captain because Jos Buttler has got in him to be like MS Dhoni. I have no doubt about him. He has been playing in the England side under Eoin Morgan and is exactly the same, tactically very astute,” Vaughan told Cricbuzz.

“I don’t know what Rajasthan are thinking to do with him but I would personally take Jos Buttler to the RCB side put him behind the stumps and give him the captaincy,” he added.

The person who succeeds Virat Kohli has to be skilful: Michael Vaughan

Buttler has scored 1968 runs from 65 IPL matches at the strike rate of 150 and also led Manchester Originals in the inaugural edition of The Hundred before he was called for national duty.

” Who is going to carry the personality of a captain like Virat Kohli ? That lad has gonna be a skilful person who knows himself and knows T20 cricket very cleverly, knows how to manage people particularly,” Vaughan further added.

Virat Kohli led RCB in 140 IPL games out of which the team won 66 and lost 70 matches since the middle of the IPL 2012 season.
