Former India and Kerala seamer, S Sreesanth, was one of the most animated cricketers to have ever played for the country.

A generational talent with the ball, Sreesanth used to land himself in trouble due to his aggressive demeanor and sometimes over-the-top aggression.

Sreesanth was that sort of a player who needed a calm and composed captain to ensure that he didn’t get carried away with his antics.

MS Dhoni was one such leader who managed Sreesanth quite admirably. Recently, former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa recalled a hilarious incident involving MS Dhoni and Sreesanth that took place during a One-day International against Australia in Hyderabad post India’s 2007 T20 World Cup triumph.

Sreesanth, as Robin Uthappa revealed, had tried to run out an Australian batsman at the non-striker’s end after the batter had backed up too far down the crease.

The Kerala pacer started appealing for the run-out before MS Dhoni came running and pulled him back, urging Sreesanth to go back to his run-up and bowl.

‘’It was just after the World Cup, and we were playing Australia in Hyderabad. And I think it was either Andrew Symonds or Hussey who had backed up,’’  Robin Uthappa told stand-up comedian Sorabh Pant

‘’And then Sree (Sreesanth) stopped, took the stumps off, and goes ‘How is that? How is that?’ So MS came running from there, pulled him, and said ‘just go, bowl bro’. Someone who actually handled him really well was MS,” he added.

Uthappa also went to recall his emotions when he saw Sreesanth get underneath the ball at short fine-leg during the final over the 2007 T20 World Cup final against arch-rivals Pakistan.

”I was standing at long-on. So many things happened during that match. When that ball went in the air, my first thought was ‘ok, who is at short fine leg?’. And when I saw it’s Sree, I started sprinting and I was praying ‘Please pull us through.’ Because again, you don’t lose a World Cup final to Pakistan. There’s just something that we always get the better of them in a World Cup,” recalled Uthappa.
