Just Like Virender Sehwag Sir, I Want To Make A Name For Myself - Latest Batting Sensation Sakibul Gani

The 22-year-old Bihar batter Sakibul Gani wants to make it big in the cricketing world and make a name for himself just like one of his favourite batters, former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag.

Gani stole the headlines in the first week of the Ranji Trophy 2022 season, scoring a stunning 341 off just 405 balls in his debut match. His knock was studded with a whopping 56 boundaries and it broke the previous record of the highest individual score in a debut match.

Gani’s knock surpassed Madhya Pradesh batter Ajay Rohera, who had scored 267* against Hyderabad in his debut match back in 2018. Speaking about his favorite cricketer, Sehwag, Gani expressed his desire to meet his idol one day.

“I really admire Virender Sehwag sir. I have watched all his batting videos. Just like Sehwag sir, I also want to make a name for myself. I want to meet Sehwag sir and ask him a lot of questions about batting.”

“I want to take a lot of tips from him. I would love to ask him about his Multan knock as well,” Sakibul told TimesofIndia.com.

The Multan knock was where Sehwag scored a blazing knock of 309 against Pakistan in the first Test in the 2004 series.

“Maybe he can get an IPL contract next year” – Sakibul Gani’s brother

Sakibul Gani’s brother, Faisal Gani, has been supportive of the former’s career right from the start. He is a bowling all-rounder himself but wishes to see his brother reach the pinnacle of the sport. One way to do that would be by making headlines in the IPL.

“Sakibul went for a trial at Delhi Capitals in January. He didn’t get selected. He was disappointed, but the very next day, he picked up his bat and started afresh. Maybe he can get an IPL contract next year. He is very strong from the inside,” Faisal mentioned.

Coming from a poor family, it would be the dream for Gani to make it into the IPL and bag a contract with a franchise. With the way his career is going at the moment, it shouldn’t take him long.
