Former Australian Test opener and current head coach, Justin Langer, has admitted that he was ‘hurt’ and ‘confused’ by reports of brutal feedback by the players regarding his coaching methods.

Justin Langer addressed the matter with the group at Gold Coast during a two-day camp before the contingent boarded the flight to the Caribbean Islands for the T20I and ODI series against the West Indies with the latter starting tonight in St. Lucia.

Langer said that the spirit in the Australian camp is great after his address but admitted that he was “really hurt” when he heard that some players are apprehensive of his coaching style.

“Everyone’s absolutely flying at the moment – there’s a great spirit over here,” Justin Langer said as quoted by Fox Cricket.

Justin Langer,  however, admitted that he is not yet a finished product as a coach.

“If I’m completely honest, I was really hurt by some of it,” he said.

The former Australian Test opener further added that in the past three years since his appointment as head coach of the national cricket team,  he has never heard such feedback from either the chairman, CEOs of Cricket Australia, or from the players.

“Maybe I’m being a sook, but in three years (since his appointment) I hadn’t heard from the chairman, the Cricket Australia board, I hadn’t heard from the two CEOs, I hadn’t heard from the high-performance managers, I hadn’t heard from any of the people I work with, and I certainly hadn’t heard from any of the players, which had been so widely reported,” said Justin Langer.

He further added that the feedback that came his way during these three years has been “overwhelmingly” positive

”In fact, the feedback I’ve been given for three years has been overwhelmingly positive of the role that I’ve been able to play as the coach, but more importantly, where the team’s come and that’s what it’s about,” he added.
