Australian head coach Justin Langer has been asked in no certain terms to change his coaching approach after a robust end-of-season review highlighted the demand for the same as senior Australian players move towards taking greater control of the dressing room.

Following the Test series defeat to India during the last home summer, Justin Langer’s intensity charged coaching methods have come under scrutiny with reports of several players expressing their displeasure regarding the same emerging.

An end-of-season review undertaken by 40 players and support staff where they were asked about their opinions on the promise of anonymity has confirmed the same.

Following the review, Justin Langer has been honest feedback about his coaching methods while team manager Gavin Dobey has also been told the same in no uncertain terms.

“This is effectively identical to the process undertaken before the last World Cup and the 2019 Ashes where the team performed strongly,” CA’s national teams boss Ben Oliver was quoted as saying by the Sydney Morning Herald.

“It’s part of our ongoing commitment to on- and off-field improvement and we expect it will have a similar benefit in the team’s preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup and home Ashes. Tim is again assisting us as he has in the past with gathering feedback and insights from players and staff. It’s always a thought-provoking and energising process which we et great from,” he added.

A second review was conducted by leadership consultant Tim Ford, which has established the fact that the senior Australian players want to take greater control of the dressing room

Ford, who was hired by Cricket Australia in 2019 to facilitate a smooth integration of the duo of Steve Smith and David Warner post their ball-tampering ban, went interviews every player virtually following the end of the season where each of the members was asked about their opinion on team values and what needs to be updated.

Test and white-ball skippers Tim Paine and Aaron Finch and vice-captain Pat Cummins will be presented with the end-of-season report next week.

Head coach Justin Langer will also be provided feedback on the basis of the Tim Ford report.

Australia’s next international assignment will be in the Caribbean where they will lock horns with the West Indies in 5 T20Is and 3 ODIs between July 09-24.
