South Africa’s young all-rounder Marco Jansen produced the innings of his life while his senior teammate, Kagiso Rabada, was spotted casually sleeping in the dugout on Day 2 of the ongoing second and final Test against India at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.
Day 2 of the second test in Guwahati belonged entirely to South Africa, and it was the tall all-rounder Marco Jansen who stole the show with his extraordinary innings against India. Walking in at No. 9, Jansen didn’t look bothered by the Indian bowling attack at all.

However, the lanky pacer missed out on his century, but his clean and fearless hitting took South Africa to the commanding position in the ongoing second and final Test in Guwahati. The 25-year-old blasted 93 runs from just 91 balls, smashing six boundaries and seven towering sixes.

The right-handed batter also stitched together partnerships across the lower order—97 runs with centurion Senuran Muthusamy, 31 runs with Simon Harmer, and another 27 runs with Keshav Maharaj. His aggressive and confident knock helped push South Africa to a massive first-innings score of 489 against India in the ongoing final Test in Guwahati.
Marco Jansen achieves rare milestones in Guwahati
With his remarkable innings, Marco Jansen also achieved a special milestone. The 97-run knock was Jansen’s highest score in Test cricket. The Proteas all-rounder also becomes the player to hit the joint-most sixes against India in a single innings, equalling Shahid Afridi’s record of hitting 7 sixes in 2006.
By hammering seven sixes in Guwahati, Jansen has also equaled the South African record for most sixes in a Test innings, joining the legendary batters AB de Villiers and Quinton de Kock.
De Villiers first set the benchmark with seven sixes against Australia in Cape Town in 2009, while De Kock achieved the same feat against the West Indies at Gros Islet in 2021.
With this knock, the left-arm pacer took his Test tally to 624 runs at an average above 23. It was Marco’s second fifty against India.

But when Jansen was lighting up the Barsapara Cricket Stadium with his cracking batting, Kagiso Rabada unintentionally became the star of a funny moment. Cameras caught Kagiso sleeping in the South African dugout, resting peacefully as the match continued.

Even one of his teammates was trying to explain how Jansen was tormenting the Indian bowlers, but Rabada was so deeply asleep that he couldn’t hear anything and continued to sleep peacefully. Now, the clip of the moment went viral on social media.

Kagiso Rabada withdraws from India tour
Actually, the Proteas fast bowler has been ruled out of the Test due to a rib stress injury, and with ongoing discomfort, he has been withdrawn from the rest of the tour. Notably, Rabada hasn’t bowled since he got injured during training last week in Kolkata, and he also skipped practice in Guwahati.
Cricket South Africa (CSA) confirmed that Rabada will continue a “four-week rehabilitation program with the Proteas medical team before returning to South Africa at the conclusion of the second Test.”
